In this guide i will talk about how to fix act 1 of the game hunt down the freeman.

redub a lot of the characters.

add some form of quest/mission hud.

you should also give every weapon C hands. (or at lest the painkillers)

there should be more player choice.

make it so the act 1 combine have a similar color scheme to hunters.

Reuse the combine super soldier from the hl2 beta, also give them the same color palette as the hunters.
The tutorial, and the prologue.
The tutorial is fine but maybe add a tutorial on using Chargers.

The Prologue should be made longer. here is an example.










then the player has to hit a button up here









Rise and Shine + Welcome to Albuquerque.
most of the hospital is fine.

but lower the sound of nicks SMG in this cutscene









lower this door so the player can't see under it, and into the void.








first issue with the city. Lack of directions. One thing that would help is adding a quest hud... thing?








these odd window things should be patched up









There should be a piece of dialogue that tells Mitchell to go instead of helping them.
the player shouldn't be able to get guns before they get to the hotel.









this hole should be patched up









make it so the axe is easier to get
TRUST
The sewer is fine. so is the parking lot.

This mounted gun should be removed.








there could be some combine in this hallway.








this Strider's cannon causes props to float if they are on the thing it destroys. also it destroys to much. you should keep the Strider in but remove that scripted sequence








You could add this dude into TRUST, with his mini gun strapped to his back, for now lets just call him John, maybe the player can talk to him and can talk about making his team do all the work for him, and how his mini gun is to heavy. there could be a option to have tag along with the player over Larry with him using a pocket knife.








this should be blocked off










This president should be redubed. (Keemstar shouldn't be the president)









Edit Alex voice so it sounds like he has a face covering.











this part should be more challenging. why not make it so you and Alex are the only two people go here, and have it so Alex is the person who turns the valve.
New State
The train needs to be expanded upon, you could have Nick, and Adam be at the start of the train.

Have Nick tell Mitchell that: "Cue said there was a drunken soldier in the back of the train babbling on about some alien ships he thinks he saw, you should go check on him."

instead of going on top of train, make the player have to go inside the train,
you could have it so Alex(Pyrocynical) tells the player about locking John in the boxcar.
once the player gets to the end of the train the player finds the door locked, and has to use parkour to get to the other side. once there the player can fall onto a flatbed on the other side the player can enter the door. once inside the player finds John Dead,
with it being implied that he look out of the window, got shot, then tried get help but bleed out due to the door being locked. once the player picks up the mini gun a gunship spawns that blows up most of the boxcar making the player fight them, once the player kills the gunship, a combine super soldier kicks down the door, letting the player out, once the player goes to the main part of the train, Alex lets you in. but gets killed by a combine super soldier, the player makes there way through the train, then the player gets trapped in the kitchen. combine super soldiers start flooding in. Nick and Adam try to breach the door. once the player gets to the main train car a cutscene plays where Mitchell unhooks the rest of the train leaving only the front.







the humvee section needs more risk. one way of adding that would be add a heath bar to the truck.








There is next to no point in looking for loot by the factory. here are a few spots that need more loot.














One way of improving this area would be to start the player later on in the level, seeing as the first part is pointless, what id do is add a gate where the yellow line is, and have the Truck crash into it to explain how Mitchell got through the gate. The player would spawn in front of the gate.









Id also remove the headcrab canisters, they can lead to unfair deaths, and the fast headcrabs are very annoying to fight. instead id add fast and normal zombies in the streets to add more challenge, once the player reaches midway through the gorge, one headcrab canister crashes into the side of the gorge to avoid unfair deaths.









one way of getting players attention would be to make this door half opened. id also add zombies, and a few corpses.









Why not make it so there is a gas leak like Joe says, and make it so Joe doesn't help you.








there is a bug that makes it so you have to turn every lever in Order. make it so the player only has to hit one lever










there should be a line of dialog where someone say something on the intercom like: we have fixed the car. we will set off a flare at the back of the repair shop.









the player should be able to ride the jeep.
The Great Escape.
the start of this chapter should end as soon as you get to the lighthouse.
add a cutscene where a helicopter takes you to the boat when you get to the lighthouse.








there should be less ncp's helping the player. the manblowers should be removed
Weapons?
The act 1 pistol should be buffed. it feels like a pilet gun.








The Sig could be added to the prologue as a starting weapon.









add the m67 grenades back into the game

the axe could be added into the prologue as a secret at the start.

make it so if the player has the axe they start with it instead of the knife.

The Molotov should be buffed.

The Minigun should be nerfed so the player has to spin it up every 5 seconds.
Alternate Routes.
Idea: After beating the train the player, sees the normal cutscene and then is spawn in the same area from the cutscene, one of the "rangers" takes the player to one of the tents, where he shows the player his route, the player can then pick what route they want to go. picking your own route leads you to an area similar to Sandtraps. Once beaten the player skips ahead and spawns in "The Great Escape.

in the first part the player is made to flip a switch opening a combine gate. ---->
achievements. (excluding ones that are in the dev build)
CONE - Pick up the cone
Fresh Out of Basic - Finish bootcamp.
A secret to nobody - Get the Axe. (New) Description: Good job I guess.
A good choice - Take the alternate route in Nevada (New) Description: SANDTRAPS CLONE.
Idiot - Fall off of the Train (New)
Pill Popper - Eat all of the pills in Act 1 (New)
The Escape - Beat Act 1 (New) Description: Great job, you killed more People then you helped.

Remove "You can't get this achievement..."

don't mess with the story.
to be fair you have to have a very high IQ to understand the plot of hunt down the freeman.

Very. Many of the sections talked about were totally remade or flat out removed. Fixes have been added to most of the maps in act 1

I'd suggest finding someone who can make models that match the style of the hl2 models and also that doesn't use pre-made assets. But I understand that money would be a problem to get a modeler

also the train from ion fury reminds me that explosive barrels where never really used in hdtf.
