First change the games res through the ini file (as per Stinger's post below)
set it to 1280X1024
1280X960 has black bars at the top and bottom of the screen and the image appears even more stretched. I chose 1280X1024 to fill the screen)
Then use dgvoodoo's options to set the game to 1920x1080 (or whatever res you desire, dgvoodoo will resize accordingly) I also used dgvoodoo's fsaa and anisotropic bells n whistles
for visual improvement.

Thankfully, this appears to be the only issue the game suffers from higher resolutions, as so far I haven't seen a single other bug while playing through the campaigns.
