Now that Dumbass Timmy is out of our classroom, it's time to really define socialism.

Note: We are discussing socialism without Marxism for now.

Note: It's hard to find definitions without bias or only one variation.


Socialism in a basic definition compiled by yours truly:

Socialism is an economic and social system (but can be a part of a governing system, or even most of it; it's a political theory as well). Socialism, as the name may have implied to you, is a system where the community as a whole has control over the means of production (in socialism, production tends to focus on basic needs rather than luxury and gold-plated private jets, but we'll get to see why later).

Here's a really important part:

There is no single variation or definition of socialism.

Take a few seconds to soak that in.


Because of many definitions and variations, I cannot define them in terribly great detail. As a result, this guide may be a bit on the short side. However, I am able to give a general description, which is that big chunk of text up there.

In the Marxist theory, socialism is defined as being a result of capitalism. Specifically, it tends to revolve around blatant and extreme class differences (like what's happening right now in many a country). Socialism, in the theory, results in communism eventually, and in a way that I do not know.


What? Were you expecting some clever anecdote or something? Next time, ask nicely.

You already know what socialism is. Now, it's time to find out the major differences between socialism and communism (these terms were once synonyms).

Note: I won't go in great detail with communism, as that'll be for some other day.

Communism is a classless, moneyless, and stateless system. It is an economic, social, and political system that is supposed to be equal in every right, and with no extreme leader. Because this is the basic definition, one can suggest that true communism has never been done!

"Hasta la victoria, siempre!"

If we have an oligarchy with the top companies (they're not people) taking advantage of the working class, why do we think socialism is the thing to beat on at the moment?


Some tend to be hypocrits and, at many times, ultracrepidarians (use that around the table for dinner). I'll let you make your own hypothesis on why people do this, even though a system without a little socialism would result in their downfall.
