Echidna takes a while to figure out. Like Surtr, her attacks are based on where you are standing. Unlike Surtr, it’s not as easy as standing dead center and letting him drool. While performing the same actions gives the same results every time, the trick is to find which series of actions is the best. The 3 turrets pose the greatest problem as they fire in sequence and make any attempt to cheese Echidna by standing on the top platforms difficult, as blocking them with the Angel shield or dodging them is tough. I still manage to figure out a good pattern, although it’s very tight. I think I was a frame away from taking a hit at the end of the fight. What you are looking at is the result of 131 iterations of my strategy.

I don’t think Echidna is as good as Tiamat, but learning how she works during this challenge definitely gives me a greater respect for her in terms of boss design, which is something I didn’t really have when I first played La-Mulana 2. Next up, we go to Hel.
