Finding Servers
Upon Launching the game, looking for a server is likely a critical decision based on PVE and PVP.
Regardless the one which we will mentions are the Official Servers from a2z Interactive. Find a server that suits your region and your playstyle.

The Beginning
Official servers will have what can be regarded as a Starter Kit ( Pictured Below )
Official Server Starter Kit

Your spawn point should always roughly be on a road near a hiking track and / or one to two buildings. The first step you should take is to follow the dirt track which will lead you to a campsite; picking up any wood along the way from fallen tree's

Campsite dirt trail from spawn. Campsite found after following dirt trail

Make sure to search any and all tents that you come across for food and any other lootables before making your way to a village or town. Do not run towards houses, always make sure to come at them slowly and wait by a nearby window so that the zombies inside who react to you will aim for the window giving you 2 to 3 free hits with your melee

Once inside a building search high and low for any pickup items, you can also search the sofa's, picnic tables, fences, destroyed cars, pallets and benches for a little extra resources.

The sofa's are great for clean rags, any wooden searchable will give nails and worn planks giving you the basics for your first defences whilst the destroyed cars will give you Scrap Metal allowing you to clean guns, repair cars and make more sturdy barricades
Map & Loot
Maps can be found in any bus shelters and shops around the map, very common and easy to find, you'll also usually be starting with one as well as a DIY Compass.

However if you do not it's usually a good idea to find them to get a decent bearing of where you are if you are new to the game. a map may help you get a rough estimate but adding a compass will show exactly where you are on the map currently at the time of opening it.

The map is easily defined into 4 chunks from Top Left with Union Town, Bottom left with Old Town and Prison, Bottom Right with Black Rock Port and Addersfield and finally Top Right with Sage Creek. They are the main town and areas that you will come across throughout your playtime.

Small Farms are scattered accross the map as well as houses at either side of the roads.

You will find that not all roads are accesible due to rock avalanche ending up blocking multiple tunnels throughtout the map.

Animals like fox and chickens can be found across the map however when it comes to animals like Deers I have found that going Eastern side of Addersfield in the mountain will prove more common than other places. ( Marked in Salmon Pink Glow )

Key:
Red Glow indicates abundence of common loot usually being towns, scattered houses across the map do not count.

Yellow Glow represents the farms across the map, nice and isolated lots of food and sniper can be found around those areas.

Blue Glow shows the higher tier areas with better guns and harder areas , mainly being the Police Stations and Prison.

Gun Maintenance

Zombies
Unless joining a server in the middle of the night, zombies won't be difficult to fend off during the day, they will keep to buildings and monuments, household having between 1 to 5 zombies inside however monument ( dungeon / end game figure of speech ) will hold much more. They do not get aggrevated unless a qsound is triggered nearby ( be it a gunshot or running past the building ) music will be heard when a zombie has clocked onto you and will be seen smashing doors or windows to attempt to get to you.

Again zombies are not tough but with a large enough crowd can become deadly very quickly. Making sure you keep to a 1 on 1 fight, zombies can be taken down with a couple hits of a deadly melee such as an axe, machete or nail bat.

During the night they will spawn all across the map and can see / hear you a lot easier making it a lot harder to sneak around, firing a single shot in a town can force a swarm on your position very quickly so always be vigilent as to what you are doing.

Currently the game holds a small amount of zombie types mainly being skins rather than abilities but can be defined by their loot drop, ( 7 Civilians and 1 Police Officer )

Horde

Horde do not appear until your second night giving you plenty of time to find loot, area of defence and to prepare, once you have made it past night 1, the real challenge begins.

Every night a horde will appear on your position giving you a minute to prepare before waves of 2 to 3 zombies start running towards you or your building. The more hordes you complete the harder it will become many more zombies being added to each level of hordes fought.

You can chose to stand your ground and fight or you can run away from the circle and flee the horde, when reaching the border a message in the top left will head a warning to let you know that you are about to flee (Pictured left), pushing further will show the message that you have successfully fled and you can go about a normal peaceful night (Picture right). Do remember that zombies do roam around at night tho and can hear gunshots clearer so do be careful when heading back to your base.

Defences
Onto the most important part of STN, building defences, barricades, traps and so on.

Defences are a must for surviving higher level hordes tho they never last for very long so building better and stronger barricade is always for the best. Start from wooden planks all the way to metal bars with a better and far superior durability.

Vehicles
Repairs

Vehicles are equally important for your survival probability when moving across the map, generally these are easy to come across however they never are in great shape.

Hull Damage, Low to no fuel and / or missing components are key parts that must be restored to be able to get them functioning.

Be aware however that not all cars are the same, each have been designed so that some components cannot be used; prime example being small and large oil filters; to do so simply click "move" whilst in the car's menu to move them over, all cars will only require on of each items on the expections of spark plugs which can climb up to 6. (picture below)

It may be good to mention since many are not aware that whilst being in the Vehicle menu that you are able to repair them. This action does require any amount of Scrap Metal alongside an Adjustable Wrench, each time the "Repair" button is pressed the car will have a 5% higher durability; the lower the hull intergrity, the longer and more times it will take you to attempt to start the car. (picture below)

There are currently 5 vehicles in STN those being: Buggy, Pickup, Cricket and Camper Van ( RV ) with the pickup truck having 3 different varriant ( Standard Pickup, Pickup + Crate and the Police Pickup )

Exploits
Be aware that the game is still in it's early stage of Alpha and thus many bugs, glitches and exploits still litter the game, some for the good whilst many for the worst.
Regardless here are a couple mentions.

Screw Exploit
There's a chance that dropping your screws when repairing / fortifying:

  • Windows ( Any Fortifications )
  • Lock Kit ( + DIY )
  • Barricade ( Wooden / Metal )
No matter if you have drop your screws or run out, you may still be able to continue repairing on fortifying them tho there are times that "missing screws" will flash up in the top right corner of your game.

Shower Exploit

Another simple and easy exploit is showers in houses specifically during horde night or being chased by multiple zombies, you can hide in the shower and zombies will not be able to hit you, this can be done in any household.
Current Bugs
Issues
Updated as of Alpha 1.7:
  • Trees have a chance to float when chopped

  • Chance to create a double door ( Opening a door but seing a door still closed and unable to walk through yet door is open server side and zombies can come out of it )

  • Multiple Car Exploits to prevent zombies from hitting you.

  • Shower Exploit in households to avoid being hit by zombies

  • Locks disappear upon logging off

  • Lock and Barricade can be fixed without screws
