Sonar is easy, look at he slightly lighter lines in the noise. You can match even the weakest signal. If any line does not match the pattern then move to next. Clean up signal and direction by slowing down and turning left or right 45 and then opposite 90. You can see the signal get better or worse. Look at object depth and angle accordingly. Rising above thermal layer for objects above the thermal layer will clean signal noise. A strong thermal duct can hide a sub so always look to depth of object.

When in doubt drop a noise maker and cavitation as you dive a 30 seconds at full speed, then run silent and continue slow dive. Torps will come. See where from and move that way.

Hide in the baffles (wake) of a CV or other really large ship. Make allot of noise at close range and cut the engines (or go slow reverse) and noise for a slow dive. Enemy subs and ships might kill the CV for you. Done well enemy subs might kill themselves because you drop a noise maker in their baffles.

Active will always detect at a value of +1 or more if it is on, passive at +10 for initial contact and +1 thereafter.
