As far as I understand (I've not gotten a Mag in PSO2, but everyone has one in NGS), Mag refers to a little pet thingy, to put it in extremely simply.
Some of the best presenters of guides (I'm not one of them, not yet) are very well-mannered and quite possibly have experimented and know just as much on what they're talking about. I've watched Anamana, and know that he's more than likely about having fun with the game while also giving useful information about the game in video format.
People tend to be more interested in fashion than huge numbers, but huge numbers get through missions more quickly, which leads to more rewards to work with in a span of time, including selling them for the meseta to do what? Buy fashion from the AC/SG whales.
If your weapons that you use have a higher element on them, then against enemies weak to those elements, you'll do more damage to them.
If your weapons have a higher grind (+1 to +30/+35), they'll also have a higher attack stat.
It could be any number or all of these factors put together.
