General Strategy
This guide assumes you already know some of the basics, but are struggling to get deep into the dungeon. I will explain some general strategy that applies to all characters before going into any specific strategy. Also note that I am making this guide for what is at the time of writing, the beta version, and I would recommend you play that too as it is better balanced.

Explore!
This should be fairly obvious, but make sure you explore as much of the dungeon as you can on your way down. The more rooms you go into, the more exp and Items you will get to help you later on.

You should be able to explore every room for the first 10 floors, perhaps with the exception of a room with a lich when you can't do any damage to it. For floors 10-20 you will encounter stronger enemies and bosses, so don't worry if you have to skip a few rooms. From floor 20 and lower, you will be encountering very strong enemies which you may not be equipped to fight. When this happens, just focus on finding the stairs and only run through rooms you're prepared to backtrack through.

The 26th floor
Sometimes, on the final floor, you will be able to find the treasure very quickly with nothing in between you and it. Most of the time however, there will be enemies like the cursed skull or the grim reaper standing in your way, for which you will have three options:
  • Fight: Only engage in melee if you have 500+ health remaining and can deal 400+ damage per hit. Guns (excluding the flare gun or flamethrower) and the powder keg do massive damage, just be careful of friendly fire. Spell books are also a viable option, but you will need powerful ones like the book of minotaurs and a safe place to cast the spells.

  • Morph: If you were lucky enough to find the spell book that transforms any enemy into any other enemy, this will be the easiest way to deal with the cursed skull. If you don't have the space to charge it up in the boss's room, you can charge it in a separate room each time you want to fire it. Be careful not to overuse it though; you may end up with something worse than you started with.

  • Run: The enemies down here move very fast, but you can move faster with effects from potions or items like the coffee cup. If this is your only option, be careful of any rooms with raised doorways, as these will be harder to reach quickly from below.

Use the Spray Paint!
The spray paint may appear to be a useless item, but will actually save you a massive amount of time later on. After acquiring the treasure or high-fiving any character you want to unlock, you must climb back up every floor to reach the tavern, and with swarms of freshly spawned enemies to boot. Now unless you have a near perfect memory, you will get lost, wasting health and time looking for the stairs again.

This is where the spray paint comes in handy; you can mark the shortest path connecting the stairs on each floor, potentially making the return trip 10 minutes or less. Just be aware that if you save and quit in the middle of a game, it will not save the paths you marked.

Save your Potions
You can't tell what a potion will do before drinking it, and even afterwards you need to remember it by name. You could just note this down for each one, but there is a much less time consuming solution: hold on to every potion you get, and then when you are low on health and out of apples, start testing them one by one in a safe room. This ensures you can leave stacks of bad potions in the "early" slots of your inventory, and not have to worry about distinguishing them from new or good potions.

VR and Co-op
A lot of people likely won't have access to either of these options, but if you do they can make the game much easier. VR allows you to look at across an entire room, spotting treasures, doorways and dangerous enemies long before you would be able to see them otherwise. It also lets you judge depth, which is often difficult to do otherwise. In Co-op you will have to share resources, but the added bonuses that each different character gives makes up for that.

The Default Character
The Default Character is unlocked from the start.

Strengths:
  • Can use all items found in the dungeon.
Weaknesses:
  • Doesn't start out with any special bonuses.

Strategy
The default class has no specific strategy that isn't covered above. Since they can use all the items you find, they will generally be the most reliable and flexible character.
The Knight
The Knight is found on the 10th floor.

Strengths:
  • Starts with more hp and attack.
  • Starts with a combined sword and shield item exclusive to them.
  • Gains more hp, attack and defence on level up.
Weaknesses:
  • Can't use spell books or guns.

Strategy
Whilst the Knight is unable to use any spells or guns, they make up for this with a high hp, attack and defence stat. Most of the time you can just run into a room and continuously swing your weapon, killing everything and taking relatively little damage. You only need to worry about upgrading your weapons and hats as you go deeper.
The Doctor
The doctor is found on the 12th floor.

Strengths:
  • Can heal themselves or other players by using a small amount of gold.
  • Gains more hp on level up.
Weaknesses:
  • Can't use spell books or guns.
  • Can't high five characters or animals.
  • Attack stat isn't added to weapon damage.

Strategy
A character better suited to co-op, due to all their limitations. Their attack stat seems to be linked to how much hp they will heal rather than how hard they'll hit, but they will always consume the same amount of gold (around 10-20) per use. They are still decent in single-player though, as being able to heal to full health whenever you want is a luxury the other characters don't have. You will however need to rely on the base damage of weapons you find.
The Bard
Dave's Guitar is found on the 14th floor.

Strengths:
  • Has an area of effect guitar attack.
  • Has other guitar skills that repel or attract items.
  • Gains slightly more hp on level up.
Weaknesses:
  • Area of effect is small and difficult to judge range.
  • Can't high five players or animals.

Strategy
The Bard isn't much different from the default class overall. Their guitar attacks are fun to begin with but quickly become unreliable due to the slow attack speed. I recommend finding an alternative weapon for combat, especially if you have trouble judging the range of the attack.
The Cowboy
The Cowboy is found on the 17th floor.

Strengths:
  • Starts with a golden pistol item exclusive to them.
  • Gains more hp on level up.
Weaknesses:
  • Can't use spell books.
  • Attack stat isn't added to melee weapon damage.

Strategy
The Cowboy uses your current gold count as bullets for their pistol, using one gold per shot. The damage from the pistol is linked to your attack stat, so it's better to save your gold for the first few floors and use melee instead. Kill as many bosses as you can; they drop a lot of gold, and especially target the early minotaurs since they also drop a potion which boosts your attack stat. Sometimes you will get a coin back from firing your pistol, but you will need to collect it from wherever it landed.
The Hunter
The Hunter is found on the 19th floor.

Strengths:
  • Starts with two tamed wolves.
  • Starts with hats needed to tame certain animals.
Weaknesses:
  • Can't use spell books.
  • Attack stat isn't added to weapon damage.

Strategy
The Hunter has great potential, but is rather tricky to use. First of all you will want to avoid directly attacking as much as possible. Instead, rely on your wolves to kill everything for you. This will only give you half the exp, but that other half will go into the wolves themselves, increasing their hp, attack and defence.

It is very important you have the wolves kill as many enemies as possible. If you do, then they will deal more damage than you will ever be able to yourself on the lower floors, plus they will take almost no damage from most enemies. Watch out for "spirit" enemies like wraiths though; they always deal a set amount of damage.

If they start taking a lot of damage, quickly go through a doorway into a different room and rest with them for a minute. They have little hearts come out of them when they are healing and you can check their health by high-fiving them, which will also tell them to stay or follow.

You will notice you have been given 3 hats when you choose the hunter, two of these; the wolf mask and bumble lord crown, can be used to tame wolves and bears respectively. The third, the fish hat, can be used to tame the long cat, a rare but powerful animal. High-fiving any animal you find in the dungeon multiple times will tame it and they can level up just like your wolves. However they do start at level 1, so I wouldn't recommend taming many past the 10th floor.

It may seem advantageous to tame as many animals as possible, but this is not the case. Not only will the exp be divided up more amongst more animals, they also have a habit of walking into fire or lava and becoming impossible to extinguish. You may want to avoid taming the unicow if you want to be sneaky as well; it often alerts all enemies to your position in a room.

The Necromancer
The Necromancer is found on the 21st floor.

Strengths:
  • Starts with the skeleton glove, an item unique to them.
  • Starts with a summoning book for skeletons.
  • Attack stat affects most magic books rather than melee weapons.
Weaknesses:
  • Can't use guns.
  • Gains much less attack on level up.
  • Starts with less hp.
Strategy
The Necromancer starts out deceptively weak; the spell book they start with summons skeletons that do 0-1 damage and they (along with other summons) despawn very quickly. The skeleton glove, which when used to kill an enemy, spawns a skeleton follower. These special skeletons behave similarly to the hunters' wolves; they follow the player from room to room and level independently of you. There are drawbacks though; the glove does only 8-10 damage and the skeletons can't be healed. Make as many of them as you can from killing weaker enemies, you'll need them to clear the first 10 floors.

After delving deeper, you should have acquired a few spell books. If not, the one you started with will still be of use. This is where you will begin to see the power of the Necromancer; not only does their attack stat get added to the magic missile spell books, but half their attack stat gets added to summons too. On top of this, the time those summons take to despawn will decease and they greatly increase in speed.

Items to look out for as you descend are the Strength of the Minotaur and the Book of the Devil (dropped by the early minotaur and devil bosses respectively), as these are some of the strongest items for the Necromancer. If you manage to make it down to the lowest floors there will be nothing your summons can't defeat.

Be warned though; not all summons will gain power from your attack. The snake, cyclops and minotaur summoning books all function as normal. The grim reaper book may also not be affected, but given how strong and rare it is, this will likely not matter anyway.
The Wizard
The Wizard is found on the 22nd floor.

Strengths:
  • Starts with a special wizard staff, an item exclusive to them.
  • Attack stat affects the damage of spell books and the wizard staff rather than melee weapons.
Weaknesses:
  • Can't use guns.
  • Can't high-five character or animals.
  • Starts with less health.
  • Gains less health on level up.
Strategy
Whilst the Wizard begins with a low attack stat, the ability to fire long range homing attacks that increase in damage as you level up makes them extremely strong. This makes enemies like wraiths much less threatening, but often leaves you susceptible to hordes. The wizard staff is slow to recharge and so you may want to replace it later on. For this I recommend the spell book that shoots fire skulls; they recharge quickly, do damage based off your attack stat and do additional fire damage. Just take care not to set yourself on fire.
The Ninja
The Ninja is found on the 24th floor.

Strengths:
  • Starts with 12 shurikens, a reusable long-range weapon exclusive to them.
  • Starts with the ninja hood.
Weaknesses:
  • Gains much less health on level up.

Strategy
For the most part, the Ninja is very similar to the default character. You do however begin with shurikens that can be picked up again after being thrown, making them a decent long range weapon. They can get stuck outside of the map though, so be careful where you throw them.

The ninja hood also allows you to sneak around enemies, making exploring the lower floors without fighting much easier. The hood does not make you completely invisible; getting too close to an enemy will still cause them to start chasing you.

Brick M.Stonewood
Brick M.Stonewood is found on the 25th floor.

Strengths:
  • Starts with a laser blaster exclusive to them.
  • Attack damage affects your laser blaster as well as melee weapons.
  • Gains more hp on level up.
Weaknesses:
  • Can't use spell books.
  • Can't wear hats.
Strategy
Whilst Brick can use melee as well as most other characters, they can't wear hats which makes them very vulnerable and so you will want to use the laser blaster as often as possible. Since you can't gain defence from hats, I would especially recommend noting down potion effects for this character.

The range on Brick's blaster is good; you can hit enemies off screen and a lot of them won't be able to reach you because of this. The blaster has infinite ammo, but can only shoot directly left and right of you and there is a small amount of knockback. Watch out for kittens; they can be easily hit off screen by the blaster and the wraiths they unleash are very difficult to kill. So long as you keep your distance from enemies and keep increasing your attack, you shouldn't have much trouble getting the treasure.
Tony From Super Tony Land
Tony is found on the 26th floor.

Strengths:
  • Starts with more hp.
  • Gains more hp and attack on level up.
  • Starts with the remote control.
  • Does damage to enemies by jumping on them.
Weaknesses:
  • Starts without a weapon.
  • Can't use spell books or guns.
  • Hard to judge depth necessary to stomp on enemies.
Strategy
Enemies on the early floors are not very fast, so are easier to stomp on. Since Tony doesn't start with any weapons, this will be your main method of attacking. Most enemies will not be able to do much about your stomp attack, however medium-sized slimes can still hit you even when you're directly on top of them and flying enemies will often get above you before can land on them. Once you find good weapons, Tony becomes very similar to the Knight, with the addition of a powerful stomp attack. If you are struggling without a weapon at the start, the default character can drop their sword for Tony before you change characters.

Playing in VR makes Tony's stomp attack much easier to use, so I would recommend him more if you can use VR. This makes it a lot easier to beat impossible mode as well, since the stomp can deal with most high level enemies you see on the early floors
The Nekomancer
The Nekomancer is found on the 27th floor?

Strengths:
  • Can summon cats that deal 1-3 damage, and on death create 9 ghosts that deal 18-20 damage to enemies.
  • Gains more hp, attack and even defence on level up.
Weaknesses:
  • Not a real Catboy/Catgirl?
  • Might crash your game if you summon too many cats.

Strategy
The Nekomancer is by far the strongest character in the game. The cats they summon can deal with any enemy you face all the way through the 26 floors, even the deadly kitten wraiths (it still takes a long time though). They gain more in every stat than most characters on level up, and they're not limited by what they can use in the dungeon.

One thing you need to be careful of is your cats swarming an enemy and getting them stuck in a corner, where neither can deal damage to each other. The other is the game potentially crashing if you summon too many cats (I'm not joking, this is much more likely to happen in VR though).

One of my all time favorite games. Since I have over 400 hours in this game, I can verify the quality of this strategy guide.
