This is set after both "The Gems and the Axe Killer" and "Peridot's Descent into Insanity"

mainly because Steven being gone can easily be swapped out for him being dead and it won't change much.

Lapis had just finished her classes for the day, the students had gone home and it was late.

But Lapis noticed something, she hadn't seen Pearl, Garnet or any of her friends for a long time.

She had seen Peridot in the plant society she had created but that was about it.

So Lapis decided to fly over to the gems house and see them,

But upon arriving, Lapis found nobody.

Lapis searched the house, the beach and even the temple.

Nobody.

So Lapis decided to ask around and visited the doughnut store where here friends went frequently an find out where they went.

Lapis then flew to the doughnut store, landed and found it empty, only the owner behind the cash register.

Lapis asks the owner: (worried)
"have you seen Garnet? Pearl? anyone?"

Store owner:
"No, didn't you hear?"

Lapis: (confused)
"Hear what?"

Store owner:
"Their all dead, Amethyst was killed by a monster, Pearl got killed recently by some psycho and Garnet threw herself off that cliff nearby."

Lapis: (shocked)
"W.. w-what."

Store owner:
"I know right? it was a shock when it happened but that was like 3 months ago"

Lapis: (seriously upset)
"T... three... three months?"

Store owner:
"Yeah, do you live under a rock or something?"

Lapis: (confused)
"I... I was busy and I... I never knew..."

Store owner:
"Really? You were that busy?"

Lapis: (starting to cry)
"Maybe I... I... "

Lapis: ( thinking in her head)
"Their all gone, their all... dead... and I wasn't there for them..."

Lapis: (crying)
"I... I'm sorry, I need to go"

Lapis ran out of the store, crying.

All her friends except Peridot were dead.

Lapis then thought to herself: (feeling guilty)

"Why, why didn't I try to visit them, why wasn't I a better friend, why didn't I clear time to make sure they were ok?, I'm... I'm an awful friend...

Maybe we could have saved Peridot from herself...

Maybe Pearl would still be alive...

Maybe we could have saved Garnet...

Maybe we could have saved Amethyst...

I'm... I'm awful..."

Lapis then flew herself away from beach city and towards the lighthouse, she needed to sit down and be alone, to calm down and process all this.

Lapis then landed, sat by the lighthouse and tried her best to calm down, to think.

But the guilt washed over her, smothering her mind with agony.

Lapis knew what she had done, if she had actually been there maybe her friends would still be alive.

Lapis sat there, processing it all.

She knew she had a hand in all this.

All her friends were either dead or had changed.

But Lapis needed to know more, she needed to know what went down and if she could have even helped.

So Lapis went to Peridot, she was the smartest gem she knew and would probably know everything about what had happened.

So Lapis flew her way to Peridots lair, took the elevator down, and entered the main lab to visit her.

Lapis entered the lab and started to talk to Peridot ,turns out Lapis was right.

Peridot did know what had happened but she herself was far too busy to do anything.

Peridot then explained everything to Lapis, what had happened to all her friends and herself.

Lapis was horrified.

But after hearing everything hat happened she knew she could have made a difference.

Lapis then said to Peridot: (sadly)
"Do you think I could have made a difference?"

Peridot:
"Maybe, but we will never know, its far too late now"

Lapis: (very sad / crying a bit)
"Am...Am I a bad friend?"

Peridot:
"To them? Maybe.
To me? No.
You just made a mistake, got distracted and forgot; we all do that sometimes, even I do."

Lapis understood what Peridot was saying, it wasn't 100% her fault but she still had a hand in what happened, she still blamed herself.

Lapis then decided that it was time to leave, she had heard enough and it was getting late.

Lapis then said goodbye and flew back to Little Home World.

When Lapis arrived it was 10pm and she was tired.

She had a class to teach tomorrow too so she would need her energy.

But that night Lapis was unable to sleep, the feelings of regret and guilt keeping her awake.

But when she did fall asleep that night, she had horrific nightmares.

Visions of her friends deaths;
Garnet throwing herself off that cliff.
Pearl being murdered.
Amethyst being torn apart by a hellish creature.
Peridot rotting away in the lab, going mad.

Lapis awoke in the middle of the night every time a nightmare happened.

The next day Lapis was too tired to do anything, the regret and guilt still rotting her from the inside.

So Lapis cancelled her lessons for today, she had no energy and felt too awful to even try.

Lapis then went back home to rest, but every rest was then ruined by horrific visions of death and carnage.

Even memories from the war started coming back, things she wanted to forget.

Things that made her feel worse and worse.

This continued for days, Lapis slowly getting worse, the feelings of regret and guilt growing into self hated and depression as days passed.

Then after 19 days Lapis decided to take a walk to get out and try to forget, to try her best to move on.

Lapis then left her house in Little Home World and started walking.

Not thinking, Lapis walked off in a random direction and just kept going.

Lapis walked for hours, not flying as she wanted to spend as much time outside as she could, taking in the sights as she walked.

Lapis walked so far she had no idea where she was anymore, she recognised nothing around her as she continued.

After what was around 2 days, she came to a stop in the middle of nowhere, a field of grass where she fell to her knees, crying.

No amount of walking away could save her as her darkest memories and thoughts crept in again.

Their was no escape for Lapis.

And then is when she felt something change.

Something inside her... broke... changed...

Lapis then had an idea, she was awful but their was nothing she could do.

All she could do was make it a part of her now, their was no getting rid of it.

Embracing what she was. it was the only thing she could do.

She was a terrible friend.

A monster, awful, a killer.

She had a hand in her friends deaths and she knew it, she was a killer.

Then, she started to change.

She felt her mind buckle and change, her body shift as she started to corrupt.

Lapis mind had changed, her body changed too.

Her body formed into a creatures.

Her legs fused an became a tail like a merman; her head twisted into that of a squids; her hair moved to her stomach, becoming tentacles like a jellyfish; her wings twisted into large bat like membranous wings; her arms growing to be much longer and clawed; her whole twisted body becoming much larger, around the size of a whale now.

Her mind abandoned most reason and embraced its cruelty, becoming tainted by hatred and pain.

Lapis had changed, she was no longer herself.

Much like Peridot, she had been twisted by her torment.

She still remembered who she was but she knew what she was.

She was a monster, a creature.

After that, Lapis flew her way over to the ocean and dived in.

Only there could she now feel at home.

Peridot had her lair, now she had her own.

The open ocean.

Lapis would later go on to become a legendary sea monster, the consumer of ships and destroyer of oil rigs.

The horror of the deep sea.
