Easy guide on combat: Top 5 Most Important Facts
1. Infantry is the core of your army

Keep teching your infantry techs. It has an overproportional influence to the combat power of your army.

Most armies fundamentally rely on their infantry divisions and your own army does so too.

2. Don't disregard terrain and its Attack Modifiers

Attacking on mountaineous terrain with tanks is a waste due to the -70% attack modifier.
There are several huge negative attack modifiers which come into play regarding the terrain.

If you attack on mountaineous terrain with Mountaineers, you will get less mali. But if you have one Artillery brigade attached to it, you will get the full malus.

Check your "Simplified Terrain Mapmode" on the bottom right when planning the attack on your neighbor.

A comprehensive overview can be found here:

3. Spice up your infantry divions with a support brigade

Support brigades give your infantry punching power for less manpower. Early in the war artillery brigades should be favored. Later on mix in some anti-tank brigades.

4. Your divisions are always as fast as the slowest brigade in it

Self-explaining title.

5. Every province border has its frontage. Units have their Combat-width.

Build your divisions to make the most out of the province frontages and therefore you have more punching power in each battle.

Every unit has its own width. Every province frontage is usually 10 units wide. There is this special rule that if in a fight you only use 9 width, the next unit can enter fighting zone, even if it is bigger than the remaining frontage. In example you are using 9 width right now, the province frontage allows 10, therefore the next unit (width 5) is able to enter combat and the units in battle have now a total of 14 width.

Support units do not have combat-width.

I can´t declare war. The game ask me to be 0 on neutrality. Why?

I'll add my "thumbs up" having read the manual and spent 9,610 hrs playing this game. Rock solid advice. You've just made it so much more difficult for me to take advantage of playing with a rookie! :-)

My additions. Use the Support Attack command to supplement an attack, and attack from different provinces for bonuses. But a very nice guide.

Due to combat width i actually recommend making infantry divisions of 2inf 2 art, with this your division only has 2 Width so you can put 6 of them in a battle for more soft attack.
