This is set after "Peridot's Descent into Insanity"

Made this because I was bored.

Ahab woke up in his plant bed as the alarm clock next to him on his bedside counter sounded, the sun shining on him from a sky light above him.

It was morning, 7:30am and time to get ready for the day ahead.

Ahab lifted himself up and out of the soil that filled his plant bed, pulling up the few roots of his that had not fully retracted by the morning.

After pulling himself out of the plant bed, Ahab started his mourning routine.

First he went to take a shower and wash off any remaining soil so that he could walk around and not trail dirt everywhere.

Ahab washed himself, removing any remaining dirt from his roots, the water causing them to expand out again allowing them to be cleaned easier.

After that, Ahab went to the kitchen and had breakfast.

Ahab opened his fridge, took 2 eggs, some bacon and some milk to make a coffee with.

Ahab then went over to a cabinet and grabbed some oatmeal.

Ahab then prepared his breakfast; Bacon, eggs, oatmeal and coffee, the perfect start to what would be a long day, he had many orders to fill in.

For some reason, most of the guards had issues maintaining their leather armour, it would break because they didn't take care of it properly.

After breakfast, Ahab got dressed, put on his apron and set off to work.

His leather work station was just next to his house out front in a small store he had built, made sense to work close to the house as he also liked to store his spare supplies in the house itself in a store room to keep them safe.

Ahab then went over to his small store, waited for the guards to drop off their armour and when it arrived he set to work.

Most of the armour had been badly worn, used wrong or damaged during battle against wild corrupt gems or attacks from small raider groups.

So Ahab set to work, repairing the leather armour.

Ahab worked for hours but he eventually had to stop and take a break.

Ahab took a break at around 12:30pm for about an hour and resumed work at 13:20pm.

After taking a break, Ahab set back to work, repairing the armour of the guards till he was done around 6pm.

After all that, Ahab was tired.

The guards came back later, picked up the armour, payed for it and left.

Ahab then went home, had dinner; steak and salad with a glass of milk and then relaxed till around 8pm but then decided to go to bed early.

Normally Ahab would be up till 9 or even 10, but today was a long day and it had taken its toll.

So Ahab got into his plant bed, partly buried himself in the soil and let his roots dig in as the night sky above him let in the light of a full moon.

Ahab then fell asleep and had a dream, a dream of a strange being.

The being had a strange form he could not identify, its shape was constantly shifting as it moved on 2 limbs; it also made otherworldly sounds he could not identify as he had never heard them or anything like them before.

It was fast and moved through the streets of the town with ease, bringing carnage everywhere it went and leaving nothing but a mess in its wake.

Ahab awoke the next day, it was 7:30 as usual and he had more work to do.

Confused by his dream; Ahab shrugged it off and got up, he had work to do.

So Ahab went to work, taking in orders and working.

That was until around 11:23am.

Ahab had to stop work and head to the town centre as he had run out of metal rivets to bind some of the leather with.

Ahab then met the local blacksmith in the town square, purchased the rivets he needed at around 12:43pm and then set off on his way back home.

But on the way home, around 2/3 the way there, Ahab heard a sound coming towards the street he was on.

The sound of crashing and odd roaring.

Then, from around the corner in front of him emerged a large creature, a strange gem shard monster that had somehow been corrupted.

Its form was like an armoured catfish, but it has no fins, only masses of limbs, clusters of arms and legs covering its body.

Its face was a visage of what it was in its purest form, its mouth was like that of a fish but had multiple hands fused into its lips and head, the fingers acting as an extra row of teeth and lips; not only that but multiple arms hung out of the mouth and were seemingly fused into the walls of the mouth.

The tongue being a mass of fused limbs along with multiple hands that were probably used for grabbing and pulling in prey.

The thing walked on 2 limbs that were amalgamations of arms and legs, the limbs in place of where its pectoral fins would be.

This thing stumbled around, seemingly dizzy as it smashed the sides of its head into whatever got close.

The thing stumbled its way down the street, swinging its head around and roaring as it did so, making its way down the street and towards Ahab.

But it didn't roar with anger or malice, it sounded as if it was in pain and even scared.

Ahab quickly moved out of the way of the thing to avoid getting hit as it swung itself around, stumbling and roaring as it went past him.

The creature then crashed head first into a metal lamp post shortly after passing, denting it and causing the creature to come to a stop and collapse on the floor, seemingly having been dazed by the impact.

Ahab looked at the dazed creature as it lied on the floor and noticed something.

It was breathing heavily and fluid was running out of its ears, eyes and nose, its eyes were also bloodshot and it was salivating all over the floor.

The creature seemed very sick.

Seeing his, Ahab felt bad for it and decided to carefully approach the creature and cautiously stroked its strange head to calm it down.

The thing looked at him and let out a pained groan as he stroked it.

Ahab then looked the thing in the eye, he could see that it was sick, he had to do something.

Ahab then carefully looked around, looking for someone who could help and noticed the damage this thing had caused and where it came from.

It had broke in via breaking through a border wall near by but had only caused minor property damage, nobody had been hurt or killed.

Ahab then ran off, found a guard and explained what happened.

The creature was then secured by the guards, loaded into a cart and taken to Peridot for examination, if anyone could find out what was making this creature sick it was her.

The creature was then taken to Peridot and it was found that the creature was indeed a gem shard monster and that it had somehow gotten corrupted.

But it also had a severe case of influenza that had spread to the eyes, nose and ears by tubes in the head structure, spread mainly via the Eustachian tubes of the ear and the lacrimal punctum of the nose.

The infection caused dizziness, nausea, soreness of the eyes, a runny nose, a sore throat and had generally made the creature very unwell.

The creature had to be quarantined and Ahab had to be found after and tested for the same infection.

Ahab was later found to be clear of the infection and allowed to return home the following week but the creatures infection only got worse.

In the end, the creature had to be put in a coma and pumped with medication to fight the infection.

The creature made a slow recovery but recovered after 4 weeks of treatment.

Upon waking up, the creature was in a far better mood and was found to be far more intelligent than first thought.

The creature had the intelligence of an 8 year old and somehow had the ability to focus enough to use warp pads and even mimic speech to a limited degree.

The creature was then kept by Peridot as she had never seen anything like it.

But later, Peridot then decided to keep the creature as a pet as well.

She had grown attached to the thing as she cared for it while it was sick.

Peridot grew more and more attached to the creature as time went on, eventually deciding to name it "Steve" partly after her friend Steven.

"Steve" eventually became Peridot's best and closest friend, helping her around the lab and generally being there for her.

Also, Ahab is still a leather worker to this day.
