This catalogue showcases every single War Paint collection as depicted on the Official TF2 Wiki. My intentions for this directory is to be a companion towards my upcoming War Paint creation tutorial, but I'm uploading this guide now for everyone's immediate usage.

Maybe you're here to find out if a War Paint you're trying to replace is using solid_black02 or solid_charcoal, or maybe you're trying to find the ever-elusive War Paint that actually uses a custom sticker. Whatever your needs are, this guide is here to, well, guide you! But why?

TF2 has no proper War Paint uploader. The workaround for workshoppers is to find an existing War Paint, replace those textures on your end (so you're pretty much making a mod), then you have to zip your newly-made textures up and upload them through TF2's Workshop. If you're new to the Workshop and don't understand any of this, all of it will be explained in the aforementioned and upcoming tutorial. Check back soon! Every single War Paint will be listed in my guide, but Decorated Weapons have been omitted since they are the outdated predecessors of War Paints themselves. Before you delve deep into this (very!) long list of War Paints, I first recommend that you download a couple of programs to help you along your journey:
- VTFedit is a program where you can view and edit VTF and VMT files, these are the file formats Valve uses for their textures. (wiki page)
- The sibling program to VTFedit! GCFScape is a program which you can use to open up and extract files from GCF files and VPK files. (wiki page)

If you want to specifically extract the folder where the War Paints are only, you'll find it by going to where TF2 is saved on your computer, just be sure to read Dutchman's tutorial above if you don't know how to do this yet! You'll need GCFScape[www.tophattwaffle.com] for this part. The file path should be as follows:


Once you get this far, locate "tf2_textures_dir.vpk" all the way at the bottom, click on it, and you'll be in a window similar to the one below. It will only show "materials" at first, but double-click that, and you'll be where you'll need to be. I've highlighted key components for reference:



Locate and right-click the "patterns" folder that's within the .vpk, click "extract", then choose where you want the soon-to-be extracted folder to be located. Put it somewhere that's the most convenient for you!

Click "OK", let it do its thing, then from there you should be good to go. Just be sure that you've already downloaded VTFedit, as that's what you'll need to view the War Paints in full!
