The Mad Moose
My name is not important, Just call me Harry for now.

I'm a hunter; I live alone in Alaska.

I'm 43 currently but I moved here when I was 37.

I moved out here to get some peace, the big city was never my kind of place anyway.

Moved all the way up here from Minnesota.

My parents still live in Minnesota and I like to go visit them every Christmas, makes it extra special for them.

But who I am is not all that important, i just thought that explaining why I was even in such a place to begin with would provide some good context towards what I'm about to explain.

I encountered something in the Alaskan wilderness that I can't fully explain or hope to understand.

It was March 19th this year when it happened.

Day started off like any other; I woke up; got my hunting rifle ready and moved off to a hunting blind I had set up in a tree line near a clearing that was not too far from my cabin, about 2 miles away.

And yes, 2 miles to walk every day just to go hunting is quite long but its the best local spot I could find at the time and you eventually get used to it once you walk back and forth enough.

I went to my hunting blind; set up my hunting rifle, loaded it and waited.

But after a while, I noticed something odd.

Deer usually ran through the area frequently but today it was oddly silent.

It was so silent that even the local birds seemed like they had vanished.

I felt like something was awfully wrong.

So I got out of my blind and looked around.

That was when I noticed something in the distance on a tree that caught my attention.

So I walked over to investigate, taking my rifle with me in case I got jumped by a Wolf or something.

As I got close I noticed that it was a massive blood stain on the tree.

Confused, I looked at it in detail and found bits of Deer hair stuck in the bark.

I thought that maybe a Deer got hit by another hunters car and maybe thrown into the tree and killed, causing the blood stain and bits of hair.

Seemed like a reasonable explanation except I then noticed the lack of tire tracks in the dirt.

Then I thought about a Bear, maybe a Bear just happened to get particularly violent with a Deer.

But I then noticed that there were no claw marks or Bear footprints: only a set of hoof prints from what appeared to be an Alaskan Moose that had walked through the area fairly recently.

Seeing the hoof prints, I decided to follow them.

Moose were endangered so I thought that this would be a good opportunity to see one due to how rare they were and maybe figure out where all of the local Deer had gone.

I had only seen Alaskan Moose a handful of times as they were becoming quite rare and were always a nice sight to break up the day.

So I followed the Moose tracks and noticed something as I followed them, a set of Deer tracks merged with the Moose tracks about 3 miles after I started following them which was odd.

Moose and Deer don't get along so it made no sense for a Moose to take the same path.

But the tracks were a good sign, it means that there were indeed some Deer around and maybe the Moose just took a similar route to find some food.

But as I followed the track, I noticed something.

After about 4 miles in I found a dead Deer, it had been mutilated and gored along with being partly eaten by something.

Its legs were broken too so I naturally assumed that a Wolf pack had caught this Deer.

And that it got stuck behind the group a bit, allowing the Wolves to kill it.

But the wolves were then driven off before they could eat it properly, only managing to consume a small part of it.

That was until I found no Wolf tracks near the carcass.

Seeing this, I had no idea what to think so I just moved on.

That was until I found where the tracks ended about 8 miles away from where it started.

God it was a mess.

It ended in a clearing, there were easily over 40 dead deer.

All of them had been brutally killed by something.

Guts spilled out, bodies torn open, broken limbs, some even decapitated and crushed.

One was even impaled through the eye socket on a tree branch with the branch going in one side and out of the other.

All of the corpses were fresh, the fresh red blood stained the grass.

I was in shock.

What the ♥♥♥♥ could do this to easily over 40 Deer with seemingly no effort and before they could escape?

There were no bullet holes, no way a group of people could do this, no way a group of Bears could either.

But then I saw something among the corpses, a large black shape siting among them that pulsated as if it were breathing.

Seeing it, I prepared my rifle and got ready to shoot whatever the hell it was.

Just as I did that, I broke a twig.

The sound echoed among the silence of the corpses.

And that is when the black shape rose up slowly.

Revealing what it was.

It was a Moose, a large black moose.

But this Moose looked... wrong...

It had no lips and its eyes were a blurred red.

Its fur was dripping with blood as it stood up, breathing heavily and grunting.

Seeing this, I carefully aimed at it.

But what shocked me to my core is what it did next.

The thing walked over to a fresh Deer corpse, reared up and stamped on it full force, causing its guts to rupture out from its abdomen.

I was shocked by this, this was a Moose and it just did that with seemingly no reason at all.

But what was worse is the fact that the thing started eating the Deer's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ guts after.

I was so disturbed by this that I slowly backed up and back down the trail I came from to avoid getting this things attention.

My rifle was no match for an angry Moose, Moose are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ huge and I could probably take down a still one but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hell.

And if that thing killed all of those Deer then I would have been utterly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ if I got attacked by it.

Knowing how bad this situation was, I carefully make my way back down the trail, being careful to not get the things attention.

I did this for about 4 miles and ran the rest of the way back to my cabin.

I locked myself in and didn't sleep that night, keeping my rifle ready to shoot at that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing if it somehow followed me.

I stayed awake the whole night, occasionally hearing a strange Moose call from out in the distance.

I swear I even saw it skulking around in the tree line, its nasty red eyes looking deep into my soul.

But thank ♥♥♥♥ it never showed up.

Ever since then I moved to another log cabin in a part of Alaska that is closer to a main city.

Moose don't typically go there so I was safe from whatever the ♥♥♥♥ I saw that day.

I also told my story to a wildlife expert recently only for them to find nothing like this on record.

I hope I get an answer for what the ♥♥♥♥ I saw one day.

I hope I find out what this "Mad Moose" was.
