From my tests, I've found that there was a compatibility issue with "[WOTC] Detailed Soldier Lists Redux", and that "[WOTC] Extended Personnel Info Redux" would visually break the UI, however not "stealing" the controls.
1.] Install a custom squad icon mod
2.] Go to its config folder and open up an .ini file, looking for SquadImagePaths
3.] Copy any SquadImagePaths you are interested in
4.] Go to this mod's config folder and open XComSquadSettings.ini
5.] Add the SquadImagePaths from step 3
I haven't worked on modding XCom 2 for quite some time and don't have the SDK installed, so hopefully this works (since I am unlikely to implement any code changes at this point).
alternatively can this be done by editing .ini files?
