Description

This setup will improve the graphics of Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth by enhancing the color and bloom, sharpening the image, and allowing for features such as custom FOV settings.

Installation
  • Download "SweetFX 1.5.1" and extract it to your Call of Cthulhu > Engine folder. Rename the file d3d9.dll to d3d9_sweetfx.dll
  • Download Call of Cthulhu: DCOTE - The Old Ones 1.0 Preset. Rename the preset .txt file to SweetFX_settings.txt and replace the one that came with SweetFX in your Call of Cthulhu > Engine folder.
  • Download the "Call of Cthulhu: DCOTE - The Old ones 1.0 ENB Bloom Add-On" and extract it to your Call of Cthulhu > Engine folder while OVERWRITING the original file.
  • Download the "Call of Cthulhu: DCOTE - Unofficial Patch" and extract it to your Call of Cthulhu > Engine folder.
  • Run the Unofficial Patch and you can set your FOV amongst other things. I recommend a regular FOV setting of 95 and Sneak FOV at Max 99.9, or set both to max setting. When you are done, save and close the patcher. Launch the game and start a new game for the patched settings to take effect. Turn Anti-Aliasing Mode to NONE in the game's launcher or SweetFX won't work.

SHIFT + F12 = Disables and Re-enables ENB Bloom
SCROLL LOCK = Disables and Re-enables SweetFX

IN-GAME SETTINGS:
  • Anti-Aliasing Mode: NONE
    (set this in the launcher before launching the game, otherwise SweetFX won't work)

NOTE: If you get Framerate drops, Disable SMAA in the SweetFX_settings.txt file by setting it to "0". You can also turn on Hardware AA (Override application setting).

In case anyone is following this guide and can't get it to work in 2023... What fixed it for me was:

Go to the patched .EXE file > Properties > Compatibility > Compatibility Mode > Select "Windows 7" > Settings > Check "Disable Fullscreen Optimizations" > Check "Run as Admin" > Apply

After that, the game should hopefully load correctly w/ SweetFX and ENB. I haven't done a thorough playthrough, but the beginning section plays out fine so far and looks great.

(Of course, all this should be done after you've followed the guide.) Hope this helps!

The ENB Bloom mod no longer exists it seems

FIX FOR THE "Cannot Create Device" error: In your Engine folder, rename dxgi.dll to d3d11.dll. Then try to reapply the ENB Bloom mod with the overwrite, then the ENB mod with the overwrite, then the patch again IN THIS EXACT ORDER.

It worked for me :3
How to check if it worked? ScrollLock turns it on and off in-game. Hope this helps! I can confirm it worked for me like this, on Windows 10, with a GTX 1080 Ti, latest driver (20/Feb/2019).

Why doesn't work sweetfx anti-aliasing? Parameter USE_SMAA_ANTIALIASING equals one, but it just doesn't work. Other sweetfx options work correctly.
