The smart thing to do if you had to charge. Is to have the 3rd and 4th row deliberately force the front 2 rows to be skewered by the spears and fall forward disarming the front row. Followed by 5th and 6th maintaining momentum by doing the same.

They are not suitable.
On the other hand, if you maneuver them using their superior speed and agility to attack them from the flank... that changes everything.
