First things first, when you launch Population one. Make sure to resize the window of "Population One" make it small as possible. Hopefully that should fix lagspikes/lag. Also open up another window infront of it.

Optional: Make your game Graphics, "Fast".

how would changing the graphics help prevent lagspikes?

They fixed performance issues, now the game runs better
