Fallout Fixt integration with Steam and hours counter

Fixt (0.81a)[www.nma-fallout.com] is the ultimate Fallout experience it is stable, it manages to enhance and stay true to the core mechanics of the game released in 1997, after almost 100 hours of gameplay there's yet to be a crash or a bug.

I do not recommend Fallout Et Tu.
For many hours my experience with it has been rather troublesome, it uses a different engine, crashes, glitches, weird bugs and an almost game breaking bug which does not allow for the merchants to refill their bottle-caps stock.
Guide
I recommend a clean installation of both Fallout and Fixt. If you have previously installed the game on this machine keep reading, else, jump to the next step.

  • 1 - Uninstall both the game and Fixt as you normally would, then head to the Roaming folder commonly located at: C:\Users\<your_name>\AppData\Roaming and delete the Fallout folder, afterwards, on Steam go to Steam->Settings->Downloads and clear the download cache.

This is done to prevent file conflict if you install other mods alongside Fixt, it also prevents steam from overwriting your files in case there are backups on the Cloud and a bug in which the FalloutLauncher.exe background textures become corrupted in case you want to uninstall Fixt in the future.

  • 2 - Install Fallout, then Fixt. You should now have a new folder inside C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout for Fixt.

It goes without saying, but...: BACKUP ALL YOUR STEAM GAME FILES.

  • 3 - Move the Fallout Fixt folder that is inside C:\Steam\steamapps\common to another location and make a new folder inside of it called steam. Copy to this new folder the DATA folder, CRITTER.dat and MASTER.dat from C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout.

  • 4 - Delete everything inside C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout and move the contents of the Fallout Fixt folder to it. Rename FALLOUTW.exe to FalloutLauncher.exe as this is the executable Steam looks for when you start the game from the client, any further modifications to this .exe will result in steam overwriting your files with contents saved on the cloud.

This is how your folder structure should look like:


  • 5 - Open the fallout.cfg archive and look for the lines music_path1, critter_dat and master_dat and replace the ..\ with steam\.

e.g: music_path1=..\data\sound\music\ to music_path1=steam\data\sound\music\


You are now ready to play the true Fallout experience, enjoy!

Note: To those experiencing crashes, head into C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout\f1_res.ini and tinker with the variables there, common culprits are GRAPHICS_MODE, UAC_AWARE, SAFER_DISPLAY_LIST and COLOUR_BITS.

I have a monitor that's 3840x2400 and the UI is so tiny. How can I make it larger?

Guys.. I have the fix..well it worked for me at least... first, delete everything in your main Fallout folder except for the FALLOUTW.exe file. Next, add everything from the Fallout Fixit folder into the main Fallout folder, except for the FALLOUTW.exe file. Next, rename the FALLOUT.exe file (in the fixit folder) to FalloutLauncher.exe and transfer it into the main Fallout folder. Next, open the fallout.cfg in the main Fallout folder and edit the text like this:
music_path1=data\sound\music\
critter_dat=critter.dat
master_dat=master.dat
Finally to fix the resolution issues open the f1_res_Config.exe in the main Fallout folder and edit the following:
Graphics Mode - Change to Direct 9
Colours - Change to 32-bit
Resolution - According to your specifications (mine was 1280x720)
High-Resolution Patch - Enable (By default it is disabled)
Hopefully, now it should work for you guys 'cause for me it does when I did this method.

Mine seems to be running fine after doing all of this, but I don't have the ability to access the options. That isn't on the menu. I can't change any video options.

For those of you experiencing crashes on startup related to resolution and whatnot, you have to open the f1_res.ini file and set the game to run using directx 9 (2) and your monitor's resolution. You can also change other values if you prefer.

Seems to be fully broken on WIndows 11 24h2 as of 2024, fails to boot and just freezes the host pc

if i already am a good bit into the game can i keep my saves or nah?
