How To
Make a new folder called "custom" in the "Steam\steamapps\common\Dark Messiah Might and Magic Single Player" directory.

Next, open the "mm" folder from the above path and edit "gameinfo.txt" so that its SearchPaths reads:
SearchPaths { Game custom // add this line Game mm Game |gameinfo_path|. }
Then, copy all the files and folders from the MM folder into the custom folder. Now you may add your mod files into the "custom" folder. Install them the same way you would have before, just to the custom folder now.

That's it, now you can enjoy all your mods for Dark Messiah again. If you are curious as to where you can get them then check out Dark Messiah Files ( http://darkmessiah.filefront.com/ ) or on Google.

I myself have also made a bug fix mod for an annoying sound bug in the game where if you draw frozen bow or light an arrow on fire then there would be a buzzing flies sound, here is the link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/y180oi18gbkegp2/dark%20messiah%20flies%20sound%20fix.rar

Old thread but just confirming this definitely still helps in 2018 as well. Owned this game for a few years now on old Steam Accounts prior to current one and so good to finally get mods working for it haha. Cheers!

@The Bruised Bruiser

Looking at your first post. You placed the "Game Custom" line UNDERNEATH the "Game MM" line. It should be the other way around.

@Love Angel Flonne:

Thanks for the guide it was very useful.

Did you put the mods in the custom area as well?

I did what was instructed, change the gameinfo.txt located in:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dark Messiah Might and Magic Single Player\mm

and then rewrited for changes:

"GameInfo"
{
game "Might and Magic"
title "Might and Magic"
type singleplayer_only
developer "Arkane Studios"
developer_url "http://arkane-studios.com"
icon "mm/resource/dmommico"
FileSystem
{
SteamAppId 2100
ToolsAppId 211
SearchPaths
{
Game mm
Game custom
Game |gameinfo_path|.
}
}
}

Then took all the files from MM dir and placed them in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dark Messiah Might and Magic Single Player\custom

The custom mods don't work, i don't under stand what I'm doing wrong?

Today was the first time I played my Steam version of Dark Messiah. For a moment I was worried that my modifications wouldn't work anymore. Thank you very much for having taken the time to create this most helpful guide.

You can find my modifications under the following link:

Follow the instructions of the aforementioned guide and then copy the files "spells.txt" and "mm_game_settings.txt" under "Steam\SteamApps\common\Dark Messiah Might and Magic Single Player\custom\script" directory.
