What is this?
Playing old PC games is a pain but thankfully over the years people have figured out fixes. Changing lots of settings manually is still irritating though so here's an easy to download .rar file containing all the adjustments you'll need to fully enjoy Enslaved: Odyssey to the West on Steam.

What does this download contain?
1. Options to play in 1440p and 4K.

2. Increased shadow resolution, better anisotropy and a fix for the distracting shadow-banding visual bug on characters.

3. An unlimited frame-limit, it can now be played as fast your monitor allows! Originally the game would run at a maximum of 62FPS.

4. The ability to play with Monkey and Trip's extra costumes from a first playthrough, along with the ability to enable both of them at once - for some reason you are not able to do this by default.

5. An accompanying ".txt" file with easy to follow installation instructions.

Conclusion
Thanks to the original contributors for making this game playable for so many people over the years! In particular to Steam user MarurabaATX for their original improvement guide (which contains extra information about custom skins if you are interested; Wuxriff for their original original graphics adjustment guide, and gl1tch2gh0st for their info about the shadow banding-fix.

These guides do contain some out of date configuration information so I do not recommend adjusting settings based off of them as the files supplied in the download have been optimised already.

Please rate if you found this useful and would like future players to use! Cheers and have fun :D

Shame, game won't start after I replace the folders. Guess I'll have to play the uglier version... :Hearthian_Cry:

The game does have bugged shadows on the characters' skins. Thank you for the fix. I can't believe I never played this game before, it's amazing.

...aaand Chapter 13 is bugged as well. Honestly just leave it capped at 60 at this point.

...Also, PSA: setting MaxSmoothedFrameRate in MonkeyEngine.ini to 165 glitches out Chapter 12. It has to be locked to 60 or else the tram puzzle won't work properly. Rest of the game worked just fine on 165 tho.

Having a problem with the file in the txt document doesn't come with it so I don't know where to place the .rar file.

Hey Jumbo, thanks for this. One thing tho - shadows looked funky on character models by default.

Messed around a bit in MonkeyEngine.ini and found that Min and Max Shadow Resolution values were set to only 32 and 512 respectively. Shadow Filter Radius and Depth Bias were also set to 2 and 0.012 respectively.

I changed these to the values below (courtesy of PC Gaming Wiki) and everything looks as it should now. Sharing it around in case anybody has the same issue:

MinShadowResolution=128
MaxShadowResolution=2048
ShadowFilterRadius=5.0
ShadowDepthBias=0.036
