Create a profile
First you must launch the game and create a profile.
Locate profile file
Now exit the game and find where your profile file is.
Path: SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Hard to Be a God\Profiles
Open your created profile folder, locate and open file called "local.ini".
Change resolution
In the file "local.ini" you will find options for "g_width" and "g_height". Change them to your desired resolution. Save and close the file.
Done
That's it. Your game should be in your desired resolution now.

thats technically not "widescreen" its regular screen stretched to widescreen dimensions. Old games are 4:3 (square) and new games are 16:9 (widescreen). So if you are playing an older game and type in a widescreen resolution it will just do some crazy stretching to achieve that.

if you want real widescreen with nothing stretched, The pcgamingwiki for hard to be a god has a link to the dll which provides proper widescreen support

personally i am using a 4:3 resolution + windowed mode (1280x960 which is also a 4:3 resolution as well) so my dimensions are perfect

ive been kind of obsessed with using windowed mode lately, it looks just as crisp as native (its just smaller) Its like all old games look HD in windowed mode!-+
