One thing I haven't been able to do yet in any run is achieve Good Samaritan (save all 5 explorers in Biosphere Zero)... funnily enough, I was closest to doing that on this run, but no cigar. Will you make any more guides for Night Road?
I've also never been able to end the game on max Humanity either (I know freeing the prisoners at Camp Scheffler maxes out your Humanity, but it's so easy to get a messy kill or lose control after that I feel, and I don't know of any other event in the game that actually raises Humanity apart from prison break).
Thanks for the suggestion. I actually just finished the game, and saw the means to saving and editing my progress afterward. I decided to carry my campaign through and just seeing what would happen.
I didn't imagine too much would change by doing the Diablerie, and as I see the game has no sequel, so it's less impactating... But I still wanted to do it because I prepared myself for it, I had the opportunity to do it, I got the skillchecks, did everything right, and then... there was no option because of my character's supposed convictions. I never liked that in CoG - limiting the player. It is a choice-based game for a reason, you know.
But that's alright, I now know what to do, and considering how poor an ending it was, I'm not even sure I'll want to play it again many times and find out the rest. I believe they'll be quite similar. Kind of unfinished. At least the adventure was fun.
Thanks again for the suggestion.
In case it's of interest, you can change the convictions easily by opening the save-file in notepad and editing it. They are in easily understood normal language. We're talking about changing two 2-digit numbers. You may not want to and I'm not prompting you to, just wanted to let you know it's a roundabout option. If you do, make a backup of your save first. There is a guide on locating your savefile.
I otherwise agree with the sentiment. Convictions proved to be both unintuitive and a severe obstacle to roleplay. The only way to get an enjoyable experience was to ignore them entirely. Luckily they have no big impact on the game. While diablerizing is fun to do once I've found no real impact on the game from doing it. Even the negative ones where underwhelming. Then again the game isn't long enough to make the lack of responsiveness to that major event really felt, so it's no biggie.
Thanks for setting up this guide.
