Note that after spending 14,000 souls for the" Smithing for Life" achievement, you must Talk to McDuff to receive the achievement. I kept spending souls expecting to be awarded the achievement and then finally realized I needed to "Talk" to him.

Hey Lavinho, Yeah it should be 14,000 Souls for Upgrading any Weapons or Armor as well as on Weapon Infusions; spending money on his purchasable Items does not count. It may potentially reset across different NGs so you may have to spend that whole 14,000 in one playthrough.

To guarantee it, depending on how far in you are/have Titantite or Infusions to spare, I would farm out 14,000 (maybe at Iron Keep or anywhere good for Soul farming) & spend it all in "one go" to see. If that doesn't work... then I am not too sure. In theory, that should work though.
ASTROMECHAPUNK 18 Jun, 2023 @ 3:45pm
wait... from "Smith For Life" i need only spend 14,000 in McDuff? so my trophy is trouble, i already spent this amount if i'm in ng+3
Cynic 0055  [author] 9 Jan, 2023 @ 10:18pm
Hey Kazmark, Hmm well 50 should have unlocked it for you. Every Covenant has three Ranks; to earn Selfless Giver you need to reach Rank 3 in any Covenant... which you technically did for the Company of Champions. Dark Souls 2 is notoriously bad at updating Achievements, not sure if you play Offline (as in Steam Offlinemode) but that can effect unlocking Achievements; I know for me personally I had Story Achievements not unlock on me for having a spotty internet connection.

Other than that, I am not too sure. Ideally, it will randomly sync up & unlock for you. Worst case is try maxing out another Covenant? :bloodstain2:
Kazmark 9 Jan, 2023 @ 7:31pm
bit late but weird question, what actually defines "maxed out" devotion to a covenant? I've offered 50 Awstones to the Company of Champions after Farming Roy the Explorer for the Vanquisher's Seal, but haven't received Selfless Giver.

Thanks!

don't need a cape to be a hero

Thanks for the guide. :praisesun:
BTW if anyone wants to play offline, you can pull your ethernet on the "Press Start", wait for the game to tell you you're in offline mode, then put your ethernet back and you can be offline and still earn the achievements. But I guess everyone knows that already.
I had it happen to me in DSR with Gravelord Nito. My net went out as I was fighting him, so the achievement didn't pop and I had to get it in NG+. Very annoying. :estusempty:
TheBrainninja 3 Aug, 2021 @ 6:45pm
Well shoot, that sure is a bummer. Don't think there's any technical reason achievements can't be earned offline, and sometimes that's just what life requires! Thanks for the info Cynic, guess we'll see what happens when I loop 'round the horn.
Cynic 0055  [author] 3 Aug, 2021 @ 3:30pm
Hey TheBrainninja, Since there is no way to reload a Save in Dark Souls, your pretty much hooped for that playthrough. If you miss the story trigger, you can't go back & redo it. Fortunately, you can unlock the ones you miss on NG+ or NG++ or just on a brand new NG if you choose it.

It is SUPER frustrating though, the same thing happened to me with Brightstone Bonfire Achievement on my first playthrough. A lot of games have that "feature" of not having Achievements unlock if your offline... lucky us. :bonfire2:
