Letters and Numbers - How to Make Them With Decals
By AP_Squared
Since Starship EVO is in early access, there isn't a lot of content available yet. One thing I'm personally hoping for is a larger variety of decals, especially letters and numbers. In the meantime, I've figured out a way to make letters using only the square decal and two paint colors, and I'd love to show you how! Its relatively simple, and most of the letters only take up a 2 by 3 area!

Introduction
Why Use This Guide
I designed all of these letters to be a balance of compact size, simplicity and ease of construction. Most letters are two blocks by three blocks, and only require the use of the square decal and two colors of your choice. A smaller font is theoretically possible (1 by 1.5 blocks) but I have yet to try it. I'll make a separate guide for such if I do!

Using the Guide
In each picture you will see a step-by-step explanation on how each letter or number is constructed. Note the use of the colors: white is used as the color of the letter, and can be changed to whatever you see fit. Occasionally you will see a gray decal - they are colored different to differentiate them from the white decals they get set on - treat them as white. Black decals should be painted the same color as the surface they are placed on. Included in each picture is a finished version of the letter or number for reference.
Each picture will also include a short description containing any relevant information, such as letter size or clarifications on instructions.

Before you start placing decals and coloring them, here are a few tips to help the process go smoothly and make the final product look great:
  • Make sure to place decals in the correct spots, as frequently they are shifted by half a block in certain steps.
  • Color decals as you place them, its much harder to place decals correctly when you're looking at a white blob.
  • Decide what you are going to write out before hand to make sure you have enough space
  • Be aware that not all letters/numbers are the same size, some may be a different thickness. Luckily, you don't have to worry about letter height.
Letters
A and B
Starting at the beginning of the alphabet, because where else would you start? W? That doesn't make sense.

C and D
C and D are very easy. For D, note the two black squares at the top right and bottom right corners. This is to differentiate it from the letter O and the number 0, which you can probably figure out on your own at this point.

E and F
The letters E and F are almost the exact same except for the last step.

G
The letter G is a little finicky. On the second and last steps, make sure to put the black squares in the correct place.

H, I, and J
These are really easy.

K and L
The letter K is one of the harder ones on this list, and one of the weirder looking ones. L is almost too simple.

M
M isn't very hard, its just a little tedious. Be aware its also one of the letters thats wider than the rest, at 2.5 by 3 blocks.

N and O
You should already know how to do the second one!

P and Q
P is easy if you know how to do A. Be careful with Q, though. The "O" part is actually only 2 by 2.5 blocks to leave room for the little tail.

R and S
If you can do B, you can do R. Being able to do B has no effect on your ability to do S.

T, U, and V
T is another letter that's half a block wider than the rest. However, U and V are very simple.

W, X, and Y
The last slightly wider letter is W, since it's basically just an up-side-down M.

Z
And last but not least, the letter Z. Be sure to do this one correctly, it can easily be confused with the number 2 if you aren't careful.
Numbers
0, 1, and 2
There isn't really any reason to show you how to make a zero other than consistency.

3, 4, and 5
3 is just a backwards E. 5 is a little trickier because it can be mistaken for an S if done wrong.

6, 7, and 8
I'm running out of things to write, it only gets easier from here.

9
And finally we reach the number 9! No, it's not an up-side-down six, the hole is smaller on the nine!
