Black screen on Videos - Fix

A fix for the bug with cutscene videos, which prevents all videos from playing after the first. This affects all cutscenes including the opening credits, ending credits, transitions and the Album.

Removing the Registry Key
If you've already seen the opening credits, and thus triggered this bug, you need to first alter your registry. If you haven't, then you can skip this step and go straight to the next section.
Press WIN + R and type "Regedit".
With the Registry Editor open, you then want to use the left file tree to navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Direct3D\Shims\EnableOverlays
Right click that folder and choose to delete it.
Enabling Compatibility Mode
Find Root Double in your Steam library, right click it, and choose Manage > Browse Local Files.
Right-click RWXE.exe and open its properties, then navigate to the Compatibility tab.
Tick the "Run this program in compatibility mode" box and set it to Windows 8. Apply and save.

Following this step, all video cutscenes will now play successfully.

Thank you so much for this guide and sharing the original discussion on it! It works perfectly! :runeshock:

I've been encountering this ever since I installed Windows 10 (mid-way into my Root Double playthrough). I've seen it in other games like Grisaia as well and it's been driving me crazy.



As an added note, if the Registry value for "....\Root Double -Before Crime After Days- Xtend Edition\rwxe.exe" already exists in the EnableOverlays Registry folder (key), you can change the value from 1 to 0 for the same effect.
