This could lead to a crash unless you enter Live Pause [Pause]. But what if you want to control your plane and have the drone camera at the same time? Or what if you want the drone to be placed in a field and then you take off and fly past it while it tracks you?

Normally you would use the Non-Drone camera [End] but that camera is locked to following your plane in the same position once you set it with your right mouse button.

You can use the Drone camera and control your aircraft using a very simple keystroke.
Solution
Once you enter into the drone camera freecam mode [Insert], hit the [C] key, which I guess means C for Control. This is a toggle. So hit it once to take control of your aircraft and hit it again to turn off control of your aircraft.

Keep in mind that when you hit [C], you will lose control of the camera. So if you enter into drone view [Insert], and you can't move the camera, you need to hit [C] again to move the camera. But in doing so, you'll lose control over the aircraft (the controls are locked).
Example
So let's say you land in a field using your bush plane and you want to record a clip of you leaving the field as you pass by a specific tree or other landmark. Here's how to do it.

  1. Line up your plane along the intended runway or path
  2. Hit the Parking Brake [Ctrl] + [Numpad Del]
  3. Enter Drone Camera [Insert]
  4. If you are in one of the fixed views available in this mode, hit [End] to return to the free camera mode
  5. If you are unable to move the camera in free camera mode, hit [C]
  6. Once you can move the camera, place it to where you want it to be
  7. Then you can enter in the camera view by moving your mouse up and to the left center of your screen and choosing the camera icon.
  8. You can select whether or not you want the camera to be fixed or not. In this example choose to have the camera not follow the aircraft
  9. You can also choose whether or not you want the camera to be focused on your aircraft. In this example, we'll have the camera pan to always be looking at your aircraft. So turn focus to on.
SIDE NOTE: If you use TrackIR, you might want to pause it. By default, that's [F9].
  10. Once you have the camera positioned at the tree or landmark of your choice, lock it there by hitting [C] again to gain control over your plane.
  11. Start your recording software
  12. Hit [Insert] to return to your plan and begin to fly toward the tree or landmark
  13. Once you are comfortable that you can do an easy liftoff...
  14. Hit [Insert] to return to the drone view
  15. Remember to pull up as you ascend and keep your joystick upright as you pull back. Don't let the new camera view influence your controls input
  16. The result will be a beautiful cinematic camera view of you taking off

On a side note, if you don't use a keyboard to control your aircraft, it might be a good idea to unmap your Numpad from the control surfaces. Go into your Keyboard settings, and do a search for each keystroke on the numpad and what it controls. Then you can delete the ones that you aren't using. I did this as a way of ensuring that I wasn't accidentally changing the trim.
