Legitimate ‘Lucky Ticket’ Achievement 2025 [ENG]
By Stubbsy
How to legitimately obtain the broken ‘Lucky Ticket’ achievement in Distrust for 100% completion, which was originally part of a 10 week competition in late 2017, but was broken at some point between the competition close and the current version, making it unobtainable by normal means.

Intro
In order to get the achievement, you’ll be required to ‘downpatch’ your version of Distrust to an earlier version where the achievement still worked. I understand this functionality used to be possible natively in Steam via the console, but was removed in a recent upgrade… so we’ll be using a fantastic 3rd party software instead (all credit to the author).

This takes maybe 20 minutes max to get to kicking off the download for the downpatched version, and it shouldn’t be too technical! (it was my first time doing anything like this) 😊

Note I’m on Windows 10 so the Guide is written with this in mind – it may work on other OS/versions but I haven’t tested.
What You’ll Need
  • Depot Downloader – open source & available on GitHub
  • .NET – a compatible version for your system to run desktop apps
Downpatching
  1. Download the tools above. Install .NET whenever you like, and I also extracted the Depot Downloader files to the same location for simplicity

  2. Open a new Command window as Administrator, and navigate to the dotnet folder

  3. Copy & paste the below, replacing (including brackets) [username] and [password] with your own Steam account details and press enter. The software is not mine and is open source & trustworthy (you can check it out further on GitHub for peace of mind).

dotnet DepotDownloader.dll -app 635200 -depot 635201 -manifest 421360734189305797 -username [username] -password [password]

The ‘manifest’ part here is crucial as it defines the game version number… this’ll take your game back to 28th November 2017 – two days before the competition close 😊

  4. You’ll also be asked for your authentication code if you’re using Steam Guard – input and press enter, or skip this step if not applicable

  5. All being well the download will start! It can be a little on the slow side but clearly will depend on your connection speed.

  6. While the download runs, in the Steam application find Distrust in your Library, Right Click > Properties… > Updates tab

  7. Under Automatic updates, use the dropdown to select ‘Only update this game when I launch it’, and under Steam Cloud untick ‘Enable Steam Cloud synchronization for Distrust’, then click Close.

  8. Once the download finishes, navigate using Explorer within wherever you extracted Depot Downloader, to depots > 635201 > 4676900, and copy all files & folder except ‘.DepotDownloader’, as this won’t be needed.

  9. Navigate to your Steam installation for Distrust – for me this is as below. Delete all files and folders within the Distrust folder, and replace with the downpatched version copied to clipboard in Step 8.

    E:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Distrust

  10. Launch the game! If everything worked to plan you should see ‘Cruise Edition’ in the top left and your ticket progress in the top right, as shown below (mine is completed). You may even be able to click Continue without fault as I could – particularly handy given I’d saved with a Homesick Madness dude standing by the helicopter 😊

Lucky Ticket – Selected Tips
There are several other guides/discussions out there on the Lucky Ticket achievement itself, so there’s no need to go into a great load of detail again. Here’s just a few tips/references that I’ve consolidated to help you out:

  • Use a team of Olga, Philip (the doctor) and Martin (door kicker). Olga is the only character able to find the Lucky Ticket piece in the Snowplough – once you have this piece, drop Olga and replace with another of your choice – personally I favour Mary (the cook).

  • Restart the game repeatedly until you get the Wire Cutters exit on Zone 1, shown below. This can be done quickly and at least eliminates one element of chance (there’s enough in the other pieces…). Note that in my experience of >120 restarts, the Snowplough exit never appears in Zone 1, so you need to get lucky with Olga… so to speak.

  • One piece involves a Safe that can only be found on Zone 5, the combination for which is found on a notice board in an earlier Zone in the form of an inventory list. Finding the notice board isn't necessary to trigger the Safe spawn, so if you miss it, the code is the same for all players – 792413658

  • For one piece you’ll need both a Saw and a Lockpick for a crate that’s found in Zone 5, so keep one of each with at least half integrity at all times.

  • If you haven’t got the Homesick Madness piece through the course of getting the other pieces, you can wait around on Zone 1 until all your characters go mad.

  • Be patient. It took me 4 complete run-throughs to get all 5 pieces, bearing in mind that I used the wire cutter restart method, and that I got the Homesick Madness one for free when continuing as mentioned earlier.
Thanks!
Hope this guide helped you; it’s great to finally get 100% completion! Comments/feedback welcome.

Big thanks also to user Direspirit for bringing this method to my attention in a discussion thread, and posting a link to this video on downpatching (different game, same method).

Good luck!

Hi @Di_Bill, if it still works and you are available can you give me a hand too?

Помогу получить достижение. Для этого вы должны быть хостом и пригласить меня. Со старта вам выдаётся, ничего больше делать не придётся. Не знаю, почему так, но уже трём так выдал билет. Обращайтесь! ;)

@rbvinny - thanks for that, it's essentially the same method but natively within Steam (including the same past version of the game that I found to work). As mentioned in the intro, Steam actually removed the functionality to do this years ago, hence the need for a workaround... seems they've re-implemented it, which is good :cozyspaceengineersc:

Still, the method in the guide does still work, should Steam decide to remove support again...

@ULQ - I believe it's only Challenge mode, but I haven't been able to test I'm afraid. Good luck!

Doesn't work for me. But i've found an easier way, without side programs. Basically, it would do the same - download older version of game with working Lucky Ticket.

1. Open Steam Console
2. Enter "download_depot 635200 635201 421360734189305797" without brackets
3. Wait a bit and console message would tell you which folder it has downloaded the game to.
4. Go to that folder and copy all content.
5. Go to the game folder and replace it with step 4 content.

Now you have older version with working achivement.
