TSW2 Starters Guide and more
By Rudolf Jan
Whether you still need to decide if you like to buy TSW2 or you are an experienced player, this Steam Guide is your access point to a lot of additional documentation.
I created a Starters Guide and a number of Route Guides for both TSW2 and TSW. Here you find out what is available

Introduction

TSW2 is an amazing game and there is a lot to tell about it, you may not know, even if you are an experienced player. It is impossible to cover this all in the official manuals. Therefore, when TSW was released the first time, I started collecting all these details and wrote the TSW Starters Guide.
As the amount of information and the number of routes is growing, I restructured the information to a still increasing number of game guides. This Steam Guide is just an introduction. You will find the guides elsewhere.
I also created two tools to support gameplay, which will be introduced here
Guides and tools
General TSW2 guides

1. TSW2 Starters Guide. This contains general game knowledge. It helps you to decide if you will like the game, gives tips on how to buy it, your first setup, how to get going and a limited amount of general information.
2. TSW2 Signalling and Safety Systems Guide. This guide covers the various safety systems used, starting with PZB and LZB, which are the most complicated systems.
3. TSW2 Scenario Planner Guide. The Scenario Planner is a new feature that allows you to create your own train drives. At the moment it has limited capabilities, but this will grow in future. Getting started is easy, but this Guide gives you the knowledge to do the most fancy things I can think of.

At the moment three TSW2 Guides are available:

  • TSW2 Starters Guide
  • TSW2 Scenario Planner Guide
  • Steam Loco Drivers Guide
  • TSW@ Great Western Express, including Diesel Legends of the Great Western
  • Arosa Linie Guide
  • Southeastern Highspeed Guide
  • Sandpatch Route Guide for TSW2
  • Route Guide Ruhr-Sieg Nord, including Br 363 DLC

More Guides are in preparation.

Route Guides

For TSW I created a number of route guides. These guides are additions to the official game manuals. Most of the information also applies to TSW2.

1. Sandpatch (note the separate version for TSW2)
2. Great Western Express (note there is a separate version for TSW2 now)
3. Rapid Transit
4. West Somerset Railway
5. Tees Valley Line
6. Ruhr-Sieg Nord (updated for TSW2)

Tools

For TSW2, you can download ToolkitForTSW, which is fully adapted for TSW2. One of the big features is a Scenario Manager, which allows you to manage your user created scenarios for TSW2.

TSWTools is the predecessor, which works with TSW2020

TimetableTool is a toolkit to design timetables. It is my latest tool and it will be improved, so there will be a new version near end 2020.

All tools are donation ware, to cover at least a part of the expenses for development tools, which are quite large unfortunately. However, if did not impose any restriction on the tools.

Getting the Guides and Tools
You can download them at my website:
https://hollandhiking.nl/trainsimulator
From the homepage you may need to navigate to the page for the proper game.
Please do not distribute the direct links to the documents. These links change for every update.
Tutorials at YouTube
I created a YouTube playlist with TSW(2) tutorials. DTG has such a list, but this only covers their own videos, e.g. the Rivet tutorials are missing. You can find it here:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLa2JNNN51aoHlefzwI4kaPwbY0PJoVgOZ

Update announcements
If you want to know when updates for Guides and Tools woill be available, subscribe to the mailing list. You find the subscription form at the starting page of the website. You may get a maximu of twelve mails every year.

I will also announce any update to the Guides and Tools at four locations:

• DTG Live forums in the TrainSimWorld Creation Centre: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/forums/creation-centre.79/
• Steam TSW2 discussion forum: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/1282590/discussions/
• UKTS TSW General forum: https://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewforum.php?f=385&sid=b7795d49c067418a51705bf496daa56d

You're a great help! Keep up the good work.

No, I did not create a guide for this route. DTG published a tutorial on the ICE train here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UA-apoN8qsk&list=PLvUwWjZgALPUAcA2_XcdbDR-qtcLkXDnw

I also started collecting tutorials at the youtube channel, because DTG is only publishing their own stuff and not even all of it in this way:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLa2JNNN51aoHlefzwI4kaPwbY0PJoVgOZ

This is very new, and I am not yet advertising it.

Thanks. Do you where I can find a route guide for Aachen to Köln and a guide that explains the MFDs and electronics in the ICE train? That route and loco come with the base game but I can't find guides anywhere, even on the DTS website.

Thanks for your kind comment. You also may want to have a look at the route guides and theToolkitForTSW.

Thank you for writing your 100 page manual. It's exactly what I'm looking for.
