Yak 6x6 CVT Hybrid Heavy Recovery Vehicle

The Yak is designed for extreme vehicle recovery in the most rugged environments. It's immense twin medium-engine, 6x6 drive, large wheels and rear winch make it capable of towing the heaviest of vehicles out of the most difficult situations. Stuck in a snow-drift? Slid into a ravine? Or simply just broken down? The Yak will get you out.

Unique 168-speed Automatic Transmission

The Yak features an incredible gear range, all the way down to 1:243 for ultimate towing power. 84 forward gears and 84 reverse gears give a unique, almost-continuously variable transmission (max step change of 10%) to ensure the engines always operate at their maximum efficiency. The Yak can tow a 500-tonne vehicle (125x its own weight) efficiently using ultra-low crawl gears, yet cruise at 100km/h, all while keeping the engine at ~8 RPS.

Stop-Start Technology and Electric Assist

The Yak is direct drive for maximum efficiency, but also has a hybrid electric drive which can provide extra power to the wheels. This allows the engine to turn off when idle, seamlessly restarting as soon as you start moving. The electric motor assists with launch and rapid acceleration, giving a power boost when needed. The engines will automatically restart when the vehicle is idle to keep the batteries above 70% charge.

Easy to Use

Just hop in and use WASD. The system is already turned on for you, and the parking brake is off.

Most controls are done through the drivers seat, including lighting, winches and cruise-control.

Features
  • Automatic 168-speed transmission
  • Automatic electric assist
  • Stop-start technology
  • 6x6 with high ground clearance and long-travel suspension

  • Twin medium engine
  • Ultra efficient (0.25L/s at top speed)
  • 100km/h top speed
  • Cruise control
  • Huge rear winch with 500m tow cable and 5 mag connectors
  • Exceeds a 1-tonne drawbar pull
  • Can pull a 500-tonne vehicle at 0.5m/s, even with the wheels locked (see image)
  • Xenon headlights
  • Amber emergency lights with 5-channel, 2-phase pattern
  • All-round floodlights
  • Small cab with bed for longer missions or basic medical care
  • 4 full 3-point seats (including driver), plus two bench seats
  • Smaller forward winch with small connector
  • Fuel port for limited fuel mode
  • Two way radio

Customization

  • You can easily change the type of connector on the rear winch. Even with 5 mag-alls its very easy to rip off when towing (note, the button engages the middle mag-all, the other 4 turn on when the middle one engages). It's much better to use a specific connector whenever you can. The front winch has a small connector for this reason.
  • The Yak is optimised for towing so it has a low top speed and runs with high grip tyres at low tyre pressure. If you change the tyres/pressure you can get better speed and efficiency on the road, at the cost of off-road/towing performance. Its possible to XML edit the tyres for higher grip to get the best of both worlds, but I prefer not to edit non-aesthetic things. Please note that due to the tremendous torque you will wheel-spin low-grip tyres!

All systems and micro-controllers developed by myself.
