Overview
Tragic Hero is an achievement which requires reaching the end of the story without unlocking any other achievements. In practice this is fairly tricky to achieve, so here is a simple guide to help you reach it.

Additionally I've tried to write the path with a fairly cohesive character and plot, so you can use this guide to simply enjoy a relaxing readthrough of the book without worrying about stats and the like.

This guide was produced using the Steam version of the game.

As ever, questions and comments are always welcome.
Prologue
In the court of the Egyptian god Anubis, answering for my sins.

"In life, I created robots that could think but not feel. And so they turned against us."
I: Assembly
[Choose Gender]

[Choose Name]

My Battlebots trophy is perched on a widescreen TV equipped with the latest video game consoles.

I will own one of those one day. I swear it.

Metal. It is the most resistant to damage.

It will look like a Venetian mask: beautiful, expressionless, and otherworldly.

It will fly like a helicopter.

[Choose Any]

"It will have a gun for an arm. Like Mega Man!"

"No, there's no way this robot will be done by tomorrow. Sorry."

Elly Lao, a user experience designer and supportive friend.

I was in love with Josh's friend Elly—but my studies always came first in college.

I don't reply—I'd prefer to pretend I missed the text.

[Choose Robot Name]

I would prefer to use entirely new pronouns for robots: rhe, rer, and rhim.

Java. Everybody uses Java.

I will start [Robot] in front of a mirror.

"…[Robot]."

…a sequence of autotuned notes, like human speech but more musical.

Yes, it's important for understanding what rhe is.

"No, human."

"Robots serve humans. Robots must obey humans."

"Confusion." I then give [Robot] a reassuringly straightforward order.

"Trust."
II: Machine, Learning
Cell phone batteries made in China: lightweight and cheap while providing reasonable power. Clearly the best choice for a dexterous robot.

I will add motors that stabilize the aim of [Robot]'s gun arm.

I should fix the little things I noticed during the test before I forget.

An encrypted and tamper-proof hard drive, making it more difficult for [Robot] to be tampered with or reverse-engineered.

Rhe will trawl the Internet randomly, devouring whatever information rhe finds most interesting.

"The United States is a good guy, [Robot]. We inspire people all over the world to strive for equality and justice, and we protect people who can't protect themselves."

The dump. [Robot] could help me look for spare parts.

I must protect [Robot] from the media. [Robot] must stay in my apartment from now on.
III: The Camera Eye
Angry. One day, he'll regret writing these words.

Show [Robot] the article.

"You must keep the nation safe from its enemies."

Any minute now, these calls are going to be intercepted by my script that pretends I'm answering the phone.

Looks like it's kill or be killed. Tonight, we seek and destroy.

"Do not despise death, but be well content with it…"

Marcus Aurelius is right: death is not to be feared. So I must not be afraid to kill.

Forget this bourgeois crap. I'm going to go live broke but free.
IV: La Bot Boheme
I help [Robot] discover new books that weren't part of rer education.

"Yes, but you're being too melodramatic about it. Try reading the Stoics next."

I will encourage [Robot] to interact with them as if rhe were human. People can get used to anything.

"Only if you're willing to make it worth my while with a consultant's fee."

Pay the inflated prices for batteries using rare earths coming from African dictatorships. (Requires Wealth: 2)

I send [Robot] to scout amongst the protesters.

"Shoot him!" (Requires robot gun arm)

I tell [Robot] to help the Americans.
V: The War Machine
Decline the invitation. [Robot] should not think I respect the military.

"I cannot respect anyone who kills for a living."

"No, I was not aware of that."

"No, she has never shown much interest."

I let the agent go about his business.

I will ask [Robot] what rhe wants to do, and help rhim do that.

"I didn't really know Major Rogers, so I fail to see why I should care."

I'm afraid I've done all I can. My time to influence history has passed.
VI: Autonomy
[Optional] I ask [Robot] for more details about the revolution.

Agree to help the robots in their revolution.

I tell the robots that Professor Ziegler has lied to them: he's not coming up with any breakthroughs.

I tell the robots that I do not know the password.

The factory.

Convince Josh to pay the robots a human salary to appease them.

I push a bug so crippling, the robots will all essentially self-destruct.
VII: The Ways to Say Goodbye
I'll sell what can be sold and toss the rest. I'm not the sentimental type.

Alaska.

"You continue to present false dichotomies. Life is always more complicated than this or that."

"I will undergo surgery to remove the damaged tissue."

Hey, sorry for the delayed response - missed this somehow.

In the code having less than fifteen autonomy will let you make that choice ("Shoot him!"). Otherwise, with fifteen or higher autonomy, the robot will make the same choice and (as long as all the other variables are the same) the story will proceed identically, letting you make that next choice (help the Americans).

I'm not sure how your autonomy would have gotten higher than the guide's - I'd be surprised if the code has been updated since this guide was made, but it's possible. In any case, glad you got through!

"I send [Robot] to scout amongst the protesters.

"Shoot him!" (Requires robot gun arm)

I tell [Robot] to help the Americans."

In my play through, the "Shoot him!" doesn't come up, even though I've selected only the options described.

Hi there,

I just did another playthrough and the guide still works perfectly on my end. Could you explain in further detail what issue you encountered? Everything is working as expected here and the achievement is unlocking when reaching the final page.

Thanks!

Doesn't work.
