Introduction
A longsword (also spelled as long sword or long-sword) is a type of European sword characterized as having a cruciform hilt with a grip for two-handed use (around 16 to 28 cm (6 to 11 in)), a straight double-edged blade of around 85 to 110 cm (33 to 43 in), and weighing approximately 1 to 1.5 kg (2.2 to 3.3 lb). The term "longsword" is ambiguous, refferring to swords also called "bastard swords," Bronze Age swords, Viking swords, and the early modern dueling sword.
History
The longsword appears to have become popular during the 14th century and remained in common use from 1250 to 1550. What is known of combat with the longsword comes from artistic depictions of battle from manuscripts, where the basics of combat are described and, in some cases, depicted. The earliest example of one of these comes from approximately 1389, known as GNM 3227a,
from which an excerpt is depicted below.
Usage
The longsword is a quick, effective, and highly versatile weapon capable of deadly thrusts, slices, and cuts. The blade is generally used with both hands on the hilt, one resting close to or on the pommel, but may be held with one hand in order to hold a shield in the other or to execute disarmament and grappling techniques.

Another technique, known as half-swording, of fighting of use comes from the use of armor. Half-swording is a technique where the user uses both hands, one on the hilt and one on the blade, or in some cases with both hands on the blade, to better control the weapon in thrusts and jabs. This versatility is unique, as it allows the longsword to be used in a similar manner to a variety of other weapons including spears, staves, and polearms.
Offensive use of the longsword is not limited only to use of the blade, but also a user can utilize the pommel and crossguard as offensive weapons. The crossguard and hilt can be used as a hook for tripping, to knocking an opponent off balance, or in a bludgeoning manner similar to how one would use a mace.

As previously stated, the half-swording technique is anti-armor by design. Contrary to many depictions of swordfighting in video games, Ubisoft's For Honor for example, cutting and slicing attacks against an opponent wearing plate armor are almost entirely ineffective in doing any sort of damage, as the sword simply cannot cut through the steel.
With half-swording, a combatant can utilize thrusting attacks that are stronger and more accurate than ever before, and utilize the sword in a bludgeoning manner, holding the sword by the blade and using the hilt similar to how one would use a mace (called "murder stroke"). Though, of course, the hilt is ineffective in cutting, it can be used to inflict a concussive effect on one's opponent, especially if they are wearing a heavy helmet.
What you want most: the Longsword- High Carbon 1095 Steel Sword With Clay Temper- 45"
Now we get to what inspired this guide. The single thing coveted most by all those who know of its existence. What every self-respecting man, woman, and child should feel improperly dressed without.
I am, of course, speaking only of the Longsword- High Carbon 1095 Steel Sword With Clay Temper- 45."
This longsword measures 45". The blade is 37" and the handle is 8". The handle is wood wrapped in leather with Damascus steel bolsters. It is finished with a handmade leather sheath. The sword is made from 1095 steel. 1095 steel is the highest carbon steel commonly used in swords. It has a carbon level of .95% which is one of the highest carbon levels for any type of steel. The most common high carbon swords are 1045 steel which only have .45% carbon content in the steel. 1095 steel is known for its ability to maintain an edge and is an incredibly hard steel. 1095 steel typically has a hardness of 56-58 HRC. The problem with 1095 steel is that it is lacks flexibility. Flexibility is critical to sword making so the sword doesn't break on high impact collisions. To increase the flexibility of this steel, clay tempering is used to soften the steel. The clay is thickly painted on the blade to insulates the parts of the blade that we want softened so they cool more slowly during the quenching process. In this case, the clay is painted everywhere except the edge. This clay tempering process keeps the strong and sharp edge of the blade while allowing the rest of the blade to be more flexible. This process optimizes the strength of the blade and maximizes its sharpness creating an incredible strong blade and sharp edge.
Presence in Valve's Team Fortress 2
Team Fortress 2 is a multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed and published by Valve. The player can join one of two teams, RED or BLU, and choose one of 9 character classes to battle in a variety of game modes that usually revolve around class-based objectives.
Among this cast of classes is the Demoman, a black Scottish, one-eyed alcoholic from Ullapool, Scotland. Though by default he is armed with a grenade launcher, a sticky bomb launcher, and a glass bottle of scrumpy, the player is given the option to change each of these default weapons and replace them with weapons from a wider selection, given the player has acquired them. One of these weapons, is the Eyelander.
The Eyelander is the Demoman's very own longsword. By all means a structurally perfect weapon fit for any situation, it is devastating when in his hands. This longsword is equipped (obviously) in the melee weapon slot, and has wider range than most other melee weapons. The main benefit of the weapon is that it will decapitate enemies upon a kill, and doing so will increase the Demoman's base speed by 8% and base health by 15, as well as healing the Demoman for 15 health. This bonus will continue with each beheading until the player has collected a maximum of 4 heads. Once this cap has been met, the auspicious yet antiquated (though I suppose the former proves the latter to be untrue) weapon simply continues to heal 15 health, allowing for an Interminable about of kills.

As it should be.

* When you spoke on Murder Stroke, you kinda messed up. In terms of Murder Stroke, it is not really Half-Swording but more or less it's own style, Called "Mordhau", or alternatively "Morteschlag / Mordschlag" (I have seen it written both ways). In the picture you display, it comes from the "Codex Wallerstein". While this image does indeed display a Half-Swording motion, that would be the figure on the left, while the figure on the right would be engaging in Mordhau. Depending on the severity and the power of the attack, the man on the right could very well position the Half-Sworder away from his vulnerable armpit. While there would be no practical way (atleast I can see) to dodge the bludgeon while also maintaining the Lunge other than to lean into it, which could still leave you vulnerable to the mordhau-ers blade.
