Prior to his fight against Tony Fryklund at Cage Rage 6 in 2006, Anderson Silva watched the movie Ong Bak, starring Tony Jaa. Ong Bak featured authentic Muay Boran techniques, many that are eschewed in favor of more direct attacks in the modern Muay Thai style.

One move in particular caught Silva's eye, a backward uppercut elbow strike. Silva told his trainers that he intended to use the attack in his next fight, much to their horror. Forbidden to even work on the move in training, Silva stuck with it in his free time and had his wife hold up a pillow as an alternate punch mitt.

Silva's secret supplimental training paid off, as he KOed Fryklund with the move in his upcoming fight, scoring a signature victory that would set up his legendary run in the UFC.
