User guide about horned Cows and horned Vikings
By george_omega and 1 collaborators
I quite fell in love with this game so I made a short guide for those who just started playing and didn’t yet get into the interface and gameplay. The game is in early access but it’s already very fun to play and only a few flaws may annoy you if you don’t know how to deal with them.

This user guide is for the 0.8.0 version.

How to scroll between the hills...
There are three hills in the game at the moment, and hopefully there will be more of them soon. And here is the problem - how can you travel between the hills?

Just click and drag the hill. It’s very simple but very unclear. It would be nice to see navigation buttons in upcoming releases.
...And on the battlefield
Battlefields are also scrollable! Hold down the left mouse button and drag the map. Zoom is also available with a mouse wheel. Towers are very fun to look at when they shoot, cows are very cute too when you see them in detail.

It is no wonder that you need to scroll the map. There are a lot of different screen resolutions and you cannot fit them all with only a single map. Yet It would be nice to see WASD keyboard layout for the scrolling, like in the Merlin mode.
Don’t miss Story and Merlin levels
Another flaw is that you can miss additional levels, which usually are challenging and VERY fun to play.

If you successfully finish the level do not rush to play the next one! Open the level you just passed and you see how the next and more difficult one is being unlocked.

Merlin levels do not look well polished, but few of them are also fun to play. There is a very hard merlin level, and while playing it I realized that...
...Level briefings help!
I recommend to read level descriptions carefully - they contain hints about which cows are going to attack you, which tactic is the most useful and which towers cannot be built in “story” mode levels. Descriptions are also fun to read sometimes.
How much milk may be farmed on a single location
As you may notice, the amount of milk you farm depends on your remaining lives.

So if you pass all the levels "story", "mission" and "merlin" flawlessly you can farm up to 5 barrels in a single location. It's enough to get a nice couple of upgrades for boosting you towers or spells.
Upgrade your towers!
Why is milk important? You can easily pass even the hardest levels if you upgrade your towers wisely. Archers, for example, are weak against the cows, who wear armor, but if you collect enough milk to unlock “Bite of viper” upgrade, even these hard-armored cows become vulnerable to archers, whose arrows start to poison.
Top-tier towers and their upgrades
Upgrade also matters greatly if applied against high level towers. Rocket launcher with Firework becomes a formidable weapon, much stronger than the same launcher without this upgrade.

I also noticed that some upgrades are not as effective as others, despite they look infernally dangerous. Hopefully developers know about this issue and fix it.
Steel vs. magic
I started to speak about towers so here are few observations which I want to share. The towers do different damage to different types of cows. Archers and artillery are not very effective against armored cows, though if upgraded or built in large quantities, they do their job quite nicely.

Fire vs. frost
Freezers. I like them a lot, especially after the “Heavy push” level, where you have to build a stack of them in order to defeat a very powerful wave of pig riders. It may seem that artillery works better than frost, but not necessary. Freezers are cheap, nicely damage knights and their slowing effect is very useful.

Surprisingly, the freezer turned up to be very effective, especially pumped up into the Ice Well. This tower rocks.
Why simple towers are good...
Another observation of mine. Three towers of a first level is more effective than a single tower of the third level. Take this into consideration when a battle just started and you don’t have plenty of gold.

On the one hand you have to repel the first waves with low-level towers, on the other, it makes sense to save gold to strengthen your defence lines with top-tier towers as soon as possible, and that’s why.
...But why top tier-towers are better...
When I built a ballista for the first time I was excited with its power. When I spent milk on pumping it up with “Cow skewer” upgrade I was double excited with its power. Ice well is a formidable weapon. Rocket launcher rocks. Try them and you see what I mean.

But it’s hard to win by building only one type of tower, and below I tell you why.
...And why combining towers is the best!
Use different types of towers. Combination of low-level freezers and wizards, for example, may be much more effective than a single top-tier tower, and usually guarantee that you didn’t miss a small petty cow along with a chance of getting a royal flush of three milky barrels.
Master your spells
It’s nice to see that you reached this point and read all what I wrote above about maps and towers. Now it’s time for spells.

The most powerful one is Moospellball (it’s from mythology of Vikings as I find out) or just Fireball. It unlocks when you finish level 4 on the first hill and don’t forget to get to your “Spells” tab to equip this powerful incantation.

Other spells are also useful. Blessing may save you in levels where you have to stand against hordes of flying cow commandos, which cannot be harmed with a rolling fireball or hammer.

Open your spell tab often because it is unclear, when you get the new spell. Hopefully it will be fixed in game updates.

Lurking cows
You also may notice cunning cows, who hide behind rocks on several levels.

Know that they give you 100 golden coins each if caught. Click the rock, target the cow with aim (press “3” button, it’s a hotkey), and your towers finish the cow off.

Little cheat. Don’t start the level at once if you know that such a cow is hiding nearby. Build an archer or mage near the rock, wait until the cow starts to look around, click her and start the level.

Lurkers do not stop to appear even if you catch them once, so you can farm gold by catching them again and again at the same level!
Good luck!
Yutlandia is waiting for you! :)
