"You are having a discussion about one of your favorite subjects with a respected scholar. He is one of the greatest minds that humanity has ever produced, his knowledge seems infinite. The old man patiently answers all of your questions in a polite and eloquent manner. You absorb his wisdom as best as you can, but realize that your mind simply isn't capable enough to keep up. Nonetheless, he understands you and remains diligent.

His vast wisdom makes you question your very sense of reality, your faith and even the most basic concepts you hold close to your heart. Finally, you ask him: "Great sir, what is your opinion on the future of humanity?". His answer amazes you. He tells you that the future of humanity is nothing but death and despair. There will be no hope, peace or freedom in the future. The only thing that humans have to look forward to is an endless amount of suffering.
He tells you that humanity has been sentenced to an endless cycle of life, suffering and death. No human has ever escaped the confines of this life. Life is a prison from which there is no escape.
He tells you that all of the so-called sciences and advancements in human civilization will not help humanity in escaping its true fate. They will only prolong the inevitable. He tells you that the humans of the future will be even more miserable than they are today. They will live even shorter lives, have more painful and torturous lives and they will all be far more miserable.
He goes on to tell you that the humans of the future will constantly be at each other's throats. They will destroy themselves with their own technology. They will destroy the planet with their science. They will eat one another and eventually they will all turn against you. They are a disease that has infected the world, and soon the entire world will become like a prison from which there is no escape.
You stand in front of the great man in shock. His words make your soul feel cold. You consider his words, but deep down you don't believe them. You can't believe them. His words are heresy. How can the future be anything but hopeful? He must be lying or wrong. You can't consider such things.

He tells you that the future is not a place humans should pursue, and asks if you would like him to explain further. He goes on to explain that it is a set path that was laid out for humanity long ago, and that there is nothing humans can do to change their fate. His words make your heart feel even colder.

He tells you that the future is like a closed circle. The life of a human is nothing but pain and misery. War, poverty, hunger, sickness and death are all part of this circle. But humans cannot break out of this circle, for it has been set in motion and is unalterable.
The future holds no hope. The future is nothing but more of the same, just worse.
The philosopher looks at you and smiles. He holds no anger or hate towards you. He tells you that it is best you did not become a scholar. His smile holds no warmth. His words make your blood feel cold. He tells you that knowledge of the future can destroy the will to live.
