How to pick a lock easily (with Xbox controller)
By Dimitri Cosmos
Some find it easy and won't understand why should there even be a guide on this. Well, I didn't. I used to be frustrated by lock picking all the time and even decided to ignore the treasure chests completely. The problem was to hold thumbsticks still while simultaneously hitting RT as fast as possible. I know that there are others who have the same problem.

Well here's what you should remember to save time and avoid frustration.

Instructions
1. Don't try to rotate the thumbsticks.
2. Try to find the matching position instead from the very beginning. Use one of these four positions for L thumbstick: north, east, south or west.
3. Sometimes, if these don't work, you have to try additional four positions: northeast, southeast, southwest or northwest.
4. When you have found the correct position, hold the thumbstick.
5. Repeat the same for R thumbstick.
6. Hold both thumbsticks and hit the RT button as fast as possible.

You might still fail, but at least you won't be spending time on rotating. And it's easier to hold the thumbsticks still, if you use the method described above. It usualy takes me 1 to 3 tries to pick a lock.

Note. If you cancel lock picking, the correct position changes on next try.

P.S. I haven't tried to pick a lock with a keyboard and mouse, but I assume the same principles apply.

as a PC player, I'd just like to say that the same principles kind of apply, except that you really have no choice but to find the correct position, as it makes you start over if you move.

with a mouse, left/right controls the rake angle (bottom hand) and up/down controls the tension angle (top hand). The game makes you find the rake angle first, and if you move the mouse left or right while finding the tension angle, you take out the picks and start over. Thankfully, the correct position doesn't change if this happens.

This stupid mini game already got me upset at the first sequence of the game, almost took me about 5 (FIVE) minutes to get it done. I'm definatly gonna try your trick, thanks so far.

How do you play it with a wired xbox controller?

could be because the RT button on my controler is not used much but i can never manage to pick a lock with the controler.
but for those that have the same problem as me, i've found a sollution, switch controls to mouse and keyboard, instead of using the thumbsticks you move the mouse left/right for the part, and up and down for the second part, be sure to not move in any direction besides the one you need, but then you can just use the leftmouse click instead of RT trigger, wich is much faster
