All Books Guide / How to get 'Compulsive Reader'
By Ayana
There is a total of 32 books you must completely read in order to get this trophy. You can buy most of the books at the the book store in South Shopping District (the first store next to the gas station.) Almost all of the books have a date you need to wait for until they are available.

You can speed up the progress by reading the Hyperspeed Reading book available 8/4. It allows you to read 2 chapters each time you read a book.

Introduction
There are 32 books that can be read in Persona 4 Golden. Reading these books grants certain benefits, such as increasing your social stats (Courage, Knowledge, etc.) or improving the results of minigames (fishing, catching bugs).

Read books you've acquired by checking the sofa in your room. Books have from 2-4 chapters and you can read one chapter at a time (unless you've finished the Hyperspeed Reading book, in which case you can read two chapters at a time).

Reading all 32 books in a single playthrough will reward you with the "Reader King" accessory that grants +10 Magic (equippable only by the Main Character), and a bronze trophy, "Compulsive Reader."

Conclusion
Generally, reading a book which raises a particular social stat will increase that stat by 3 points. Reading on a rainy night will result in an additional increase in whatever the book normally provides (one of the two for books which raise two parameters), and for books which normally only bestow a non-stat-related benefit (e.g., Catching Bugs), you'll also receive a bonus stat boost.

Reportedly, books which increase stat gains from other sources (e.g., 100 Ghost Stories) double the increase from those activities once the book has been read.

@Riley Strange, some of my edits went through but that one didn't. Should be fixed now?
wizdom224 10 May, 2021 @ 7:34pm
@Ayana maybe i'm bugging but it doesn't look like the o-cha way's description was updated. basically the correction was to say wednesday instead of sunday so that it reads "Your S.Link will call on Wednesday morning" instead of "Your S.Link will call on Sunday morning". that's really it. thanks for keeping up with the thread and being open to suggestions. pretty epic.

@Riley @Wonderfish I double-checked, and both of you seem to be right! I have made those changes to the detailed checklist. Thanks!

On my playthrough I was able to buy English Made Easy and Easy Origami on 5/20 rather than the 6/1 you have listed.

good guide so far. just a small correction. the o-cha way description says that you get the call on sunday (which is the 7th). instead, you get the call that very day (the 10th) which happens to be a wednesday.

Bronze trophy? Considering the missable books, I say it should at least have been a silver.
Ayana  [author] 7 Jul, 2020 @ 2:43pm
@Purpleswans Sadly no, neither your reading progress/books obtained carry over to NG+. If you want to get the 'Compulsive Reader' achievement you'll have to read every book in a single playthrough.
Purpleswans 4 Jul, 2020 @ 9:27pm
Do we keep the books we have in new game +, or do we have to finish them all in our first playthrough of we don't want to get them again?
Ayana  [author] 1 Jul, 2020 @ 9:41am
@Rixardo Yeah, the books linked to the Strength arcana are easily missable. I would recommend doing the Soccer team and trying to get all books on NG+.
