Brake System Complete Guide
By RumHam
This guide will cover the complete construction and servicing of the braking system for the front and rear of the Catfish vehicle, showing you how to build the entire braking system and how to flush the brake fluid.

This guide was created as a result of my own time spent playing this game and as a compliment to those developing it.

Front Braking System Assembly
Whether you are assembling or dismantling a front braking system this chapter is for you, either follow chronologically to assemble your fully functioning front braking system, or follow this chapter backwards for the dismantling of your current braking system. This guide is referring to the assembly of the front brake system on one side of the vehicle, so if both sides are being done repeat this section twice.

Front Brake Rotor Mounting
Parts Required:
1x front brake rotor

The first step to assembling your new front braking system is to place the front brake rotor over the front hub that is connected to the knuckle (front upright.)

Brake Pad Mounting
Parts Required:
2x front brake pad
2x front brake shim

The next step in assembling your new braking system is very simple, just lay the front brake pads on the floor so that they are lying face down and place the front brake pad shim's on the back of them.

Brake Caliper Assembly
Parts Required:
2x brake pad assemblies
2x front caliper hardware type 1
2x front caliper hardware type 2
1x front caliper bracket (chosen side)
1x front caliper (chosen side)

The next step in assembling your new front braking system is to assemble the front brake caliper to be mounted onto the front brake rotor. The first step to doing this is mounting both sets of front caliper hardware types 1 & 2 on both sides of the front brake caliper bracket as shown.
The next step is to mount your newly backed brake pads onto either side of the front brake caliper bracket using the front caliper hardware sets you just installed.
Finally, fit the front caliper over the top of the front caliper bracket as shown, this is a fully assembled brake caliper.

Brake Caliper Mounting
Parts Required:
1x front brake caliper assembly
1x front caliper slide pin (small)
1x front caliper slide pin (large)
2x bolt: M10 x 35mm

The next step in assembling your new front braking system is mounting your assembled front brake caliper assembly onto the front brake rotor already positioned on the vehicle. To do this pick the front brake caliper assembly up by the front caliper bracket and place it over the front brake rotor from the rear on the side closest to the back end of the vehicle.
Next you want to install the front brake caliper slide pins, to do this you first want to position yourself behind the brake caliper and insert the large brake caliper slide pin in the bottom left of the assembly, and insert the small brake caliper slide pin in the top left of the assembly. You then want to torque both of these slide pins to 55nm.
Next you want to insert the two M10 bolts in the top and bottom right of the assembly, ensuring they go through the front upright and the front caliper bracket and torque them both to 50nm.

Congratulations, you have now built an entire new brake assembly on one side of the front of your vehicle, now it's time to mount your wheel by placing it over the wheel studs and torquing all of the lug nuts to 108nm in a star pattern.
Rear Braking System Assembly
This section of the guide will teach you in complete how to either assemble or dismantle a rear braking system for one wheel, either follow chronologically to assemble your fully functioning rear braking system, or follow this chapter backwards for the dismantling of your current braking system. This guide is referring to the assembly of the rear brake system on one side of the vehicle, so if both sides are being done repeat this section twice. This section is extremely similar to the first as the processes of creating a front and rear braking system are nearly identical.

Front Brake Rotor Mounting
Parts Required:
1x rear brake rotor

Just like with the front braking system, the first step to assembling your new rear braking system is to place the rear brake rotor over the front hub that is connected to the knuckle (rear upright.)

Brake Pad Mounting
Parts Required:
2x rear brake pad
2x rear brake pad shim

Just like the first step, the next step in assembling your new rear braking system is very similar to a step covered in the guide for assembling the front braking system, just lay the rear brake pads on the floor so that they are lying face down and place the rear brake pad shim's on the back of them.

Brake Caliper Assembly
Parts Required:
2x brake pad assemblies
2x rear brake hardware
1x rear caliper bracket (chosen side)
1x rear caliper (chosen side)

The next step in assembling your rear brake caliper, we are going to begin this step by installing the rear brake hardware into the rear caliper bracket, to do this you are going to install them on either side of top of the brake caliper bracket as shown.
The next step in assembling your new rear brake caliper is to mount the brake pads into the brake caliper bracket, to do this simply install your new brake pad assemblies on either side of the rear brake hardware's installed into the caliper bracket.
Finally install the rear brake caliper over the top of the rear caliper bracket as shown to complete the assembly of your new rear brake caliper.

Brake Caliper Mounting
Parts Required:
1x rear brake caliper assembly
1x rear caliper slide pin
2x bolt: M10 x 35mm

The final step in assembling your new rear braking system is to install the rear brake caliper onto the rear brake rotor already fitted to the vehicle. To do this first pick the rear brake caliper up by the rear caliper bracket and install from behind the brake rotor, do this on the side of the brake rotor closest to the front of the vehicle.
Next insert the rear caliper slide pin into the bottom right hand side of the rear brake caliper when looking at it from behind and torque the slide pin to 30nm.
Finally, you want to insert the two M10 bolts in the top and bottom left of the assembly, ensuring they go through the front upright and the front caliper bracket and torque them both to 50nm.

Congratulations, you have now built an entire new brake assembly on one side of the rear of your vehicle, now it's time to mount your wheel by placing it over the wheel studs and torquing all of the lug nuts to 108nm in a star pattern.
Flushing The Brake Fluid
Flushing the brake fluid is an extremely simple process that will only take a few minutes from start to finish. I recommend doing this every time you build a new brake assembly or perform any maintenance on parts related to the vehicles braking system to stay on top of it as this is required to be performed at fairly regular intervals.

Master Cylinder Connection
Parts Required:
Castrol React SRF Racing

The first step in flushing the brake fluid is to establish a connection between your new bottle of brake fluid and the brake master cylinder on the vehicle. To do this simply remove the brake master cylinder cap on the vehicle and then place the blue cap from the brake fluid bottle over the top of the open master cylinder as shown.
After establishing a connection between your bottle of brake fluid and the brake master cylinder increase the pressure of the fluid system to 10psi using the pump handle on top of the bottle of brake fluid. Whilst pumping the handle make sure to watch the pressure gauge below it to ensure the pressure is just right, don't worry if the pressure is slightly over, this will drop as you begin to drain old brake fluid from the system.

Fluid Recovery Connection
Parts Required:
brake fluid recovery

The next step in flushing your brake system is to connect your brake fluid recovery bottle to the caliper corresponding to whichever wheel you intend to flush first, to do this simply pick up the brake fluid recovery bottle and connect it to the bleed valve located on the back of each brake caliper as shown. This is located in a slightly different place depending on whether you are connecting to a front or rear brake caliper.

Replacing the Fluid
Parts Required:
Castrol React SRF Racing
brake fluid recovery

The final step in flushing your brake fluid is to open the bleed valve on the brake caliper you are currently working on, to do this you will need the spanner located on the back of the bottle of brake fluid. With the brake fluid recovery bottle connected to the bleed valve use the spanner to loosen the nut, fluid will begin to pass through the tube connected to the bleed valve from your brake fluid recovery bottle.
You will notice that there are air bubbles in the tube, you want to keep the bleed valve open until the fluid flowing through the tube no longer contains any air bubbles, once the fluid flowing through the pipe no longer contains any air bubbles you are done. Using the same spanner, tighten the nut on the bleed valve to stop the flow of fluid and move on to the next brake caliper.
Repeat this until all 4 brake calipers have been addressed.

It did! Thank you! I was going crazy! I could have sworn I tried from that angle before but I think maybe I might have been too far or too close.

The caliper bracket actually mounts to the upright / knuckle as opposed to the rotor itself. This is always from the side closest to the middle of the vehicle. (Both lengthways and widthways.) If you are struggling to mount the caliper to the bracket you could try building the caliper assembly, (brake pads, shims, hardware and slide pin(s)) before fitting the complete assembly to the vehicle in the same manner you would fit just the caliper bracket. Hope that helps.

I can't manage to mount the caliper the caliper on the bracket or the bracket on the rotor. I tried everything from every angle and nothing works. I guess a lot has changed from earlier versions. Every video I checked out did it very easily. Any idea?

no i closed it i have working on vehicals for along time and this is why i could not figure out why i was getting new air in the back because normally if you do not touch the brake pedal while the cap is off then you will not get any more air in the lines but ty for your info...
RumHam  [author] 1 Nov, 2020 @ 1:23pm
That is probably because you didn't close the bleed valve before disconnecting the first bottle
