DB Class 120

The 120 series is the first series-produced three-phase locomotive in the world and should replace all other series at the time. The locomotives were also able to run InterCity trains at a planned speed of 200 km/h. The series delivery of the machines began in 1984 and only differed in small parts from the pre-series locomotives. However, all series locomotives were designed for 200 km/h. After the rail reform, the locomotives came to the DB long-distance transport division, some locomotives were converted to the 120.2 series and received equipment for regional transport. The machines have been phased out and scrapped since 2016, but are still in use. The technology of the ICE power heads was developed from the technology of the BR 120, so that it can be regarded as a milestone in vehicle development.
