In the world of Master Reboot, there are a number of blue ducks scattered across the Soul Cloud. Finding half of the blue ducks nets you the "Ducktective" achievement, and finding all of them earns you the "Ducktective Inspector" achievement. Apart from this, the blue ducks contain memories which add depth and detail to the storyline, and I highly recommend seeking them out even if you are not interested in the achievements for collecting them.

All told, there are 57 blue ducks to be found. Once you complete any of the stages where the ducks are found, a scrapbook appears in the soul village next to the entrance to that stage, and you can use it to view the memories attached to the ducks you have found so far. These memories are numbered in the bottom right corner of the screen, so if you are missing a single (or a few!) confounding duck(s) in these areas, make a note of their numbers, as the duck locations in this guide are numbered according to those scrapbooks. If you want to use this guide from start to finish, the ducks are listed in roughly the order that they are found. And for those of you who just want a few hints going in, take a look at the Tips and Head Count sections.

Please note that if you are re-visiting a level for missing ducks, you do not have to complete the level again after finding the ducks-- you can go back to the soul village through the green cube and your scrapbook will be updated (thanks to thejokeriswild for this tip; I have not personally confirmed it).

But first, there is some very important info to know: after you complete all 11 memories in the soul village, and procede through the center cube, you cannot return to the soul village without starting a new game, at least currently. This is the point of no return. Furthermore, for achievement purposes, the ducks you found are not "remembered" for your next playthrough, so you will need to find every single duck all over again if you missed any and didn't get the achievement the first time. This happened to me once!

So, you need to get all of your 53-thus-far ducks in a row before you go through the center cube. After that, there are 4 remaining ducks. The 2 in the zone immediately after you leave the soul village are missable, because it is followed by a (final) checkpoint with no backtracking. There is also no scrapbook that allows you to review the memories attached to these 4 ducks.

If you want to beat the game now and finish duck-hunting later, I recommend backing up your save data, beating the game, and then restoring your old save data. On Windows, the save file is in the "MasterReboot\Binaries\Win32" directory, aptly named SaveData.bin. It will probably look like:

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\MasterReboot\Binaries\Win32\SavaData.bin

If you do this, you'll of course have to go fetch the last 4 ducks again once you finish collecting those in the 11 memories. But, that's much easier than finding all 57 again!

In any case, please do offer any corrections. Happy duck hunting!

Version History
1.1.3
  • Added info about revisiting levels.

1.1.2
  • Made a pun that should have been made a long time ago.

1.1.1
  • Fixed a wrong duck number.

1.1.0
  • Added version history!
  • Revised the ducks so that the numbers in the table reflect their order in the soul village scrapbooks, and added some info about this. Ducks are still in approximate order of discovery.
  • Updated a few duck locations for clarity.
  • Re-ordered a couple of ducks.

1.0.0
  • Original guide.
Tips for Going It Alone
  • You must have found all the ducks in the same playthrough in order to acquire the achievement.
  • Know that you cannot return to the soul villeage once you leave through the center cube.
  • When revisiting levels for missing ducks, you do not have to complete the level for the duck to be counted. You may leave through the green cube instead.
  • You cannot return to the Water Temple, the area immediately after leaving the soul village through the center cube, after you complete it.
  • There are no ducks in the soul village.
  • At the end of each memory stage is a "Zero Level", which is usually rather abstract and involves a minor puzzle and/or some sense of urgency (such as the teddy bear chase in Childhood Zero). There are no ducks in these levels.

Duck Locations I
Note: all relative directions (right side, far end, etc) are given relative to the spawn point unless otherwise stated.

Also: Most ducks are listed in the approximate order that they are found (though some levels are not so linear). However, if you are looking for a particular duck, the numbers in the table correspond to the order in the scrapbooks by the memory entrances in the soul village (where applicable).

Entrance
Ducks: 1

1
Sitting on the desk in the lobby when you enter the building. Can't miss it.

Stage 1-1: Childhood Memory
Ducks: 6

4
Directly to the left of where you spawn, on the floor.
3
On the top shelf of the mirrored room that you reach via jack-in-the-box. Rather large and hard to miss.
1
On the bed in the mirrored room. You can get here using either of two methods: 1) make a running jump from the top shelf to the roof of the dollhouse. Jump to the next dollhouse and then onto the bed. 2) Jump onto the bed from the third floor of the nearest dollhouse. This can be a little tricky to line up.
2
In the right dollhouse, 2F bedroom. Make a running jump from the left dollhouse.
5
In the dark maze behind the bed. From the beginning, go left at each fork (x3). Watch out for the killer teddy behind you!
6
In the same maze, except go right at the second fork before hugging left. (L,R,L,L).

Stage 1-2: Street Memory
Ducks: 0

Stage 1-3: School Memory
Ducks: 8

1
Open the door to the cabinet in the first classroom, where you spawned.
7
In the tall red locker, in the hallway outside the classroom where you spawned.
5
Playing the piano on the stage in the theatre room.
3
In the science lab, examine the sink second from the left in the front row. This one is hard to see; try jumping.
2
On top of the tall locker upstairs, near the corner. It will fall onto the floor after the virus jumps out.
8
Floating in the middle of the pool in the shower/locker room. Hard to miss.
4
Also in the locker room, this time hiding in the showers behind the left wall. This place can be overlooked in a hurry. Cross the room from the entrance and turn left to find the opening in the wall.
6
In the bathroom across the hall from the locker room, inside the middle toilet.

Stage 1-4: Park Memory
Ducks: 4

2
On the ground behind a tree outside the fenced-in play area. It is near the opening in the fence by the yellow.. slice?
4
Under the bridge of the playset, on the ground by a beam.
3
Under a pair of benches, left-ish from spawn.
1
On the ground by one of the trees inside the fenced-in play area. It's the tree near the merry-go-round and the horsies.
Duck Locations II
Stage 2-1: Flying Memory
Ducks: 4

2
In a seat 2 rows in front of the second yellow thing you pick up (right side, if facing front).
4
In a seat 2 rows from the back (left side, if facing front).
3
In the toilet.
1
Floor of the cockpit, left side by the seat.

Stage 2-2: Fairground Memory
Ducks: 4

3
In the bottom of the fountain.
4
On the candy cart by the fountain.
1
Far right corner. You can spot it from the teacup ride.
2
On top of the spiral tower in the far left side.

Stage 2-3: Beach Memory
Ducks: 5

1
On top of the boat by the spawn point.
2
Half-buried in the sand under the beach chair nearest the spawn point.
5
Under the counter in the café.
4
Wading in the shallows, northwest corner.
3
In the grass. Walk directly south from the campire and look carefully.

Stage 2-4: Hospital Memory
Ducks: 4

2
In the room at the end of the hallway to the right of the spawn point. It's under the bed in the corner.
4
In the room adjacent to where you found the previous duck. Coming from that room, you will find it in the near left corner on the floor under a tilted row of seats.
3
In the hallway with the lockers, where the virus jumps out at you. The duck is tucked away against the wall.
1
Under a seat in a hallway. If you have trouble finding this one, start with your back to the exit door. Turn left and go down the hall, hugging the left side. Keep your eye on the opposite (right side) wall and you will eventually spot the duck on the under a seat.
Duck Locations III
Stage 3-1: Circus Memory
Ducks: 5

4
Right behind where you spawn, on the ground.
3
Bottom of a fountain. You can find this fountain by heading straight from the spawn point. If you run into the bed, you've veered left. Turn right and walk until you see the fountain.
5
On the ground by a tree, close to the level boundary. You can spot this one from the fountain with the girl statue (not the fountain where you found the previous duck!). You can also get here by following the perimeter of the level counterclockwise from the spawn point. Eventually you will run into a tree so close to the boundary that it may block you (or you might barely squeeze through). In any case, stop and look to your left to find the duck.
2
Spinning on the ground near the carousel.
1
In a bucket in front of the circus tent.

Stage 3-2: Graveyard Memory
Ducks: 5

1
On the ground next to the house, you will find the corked bottle to the right of the door and the duck to the left, around a little corner.
2
Sitting in the clasped hands of an angel statue, near the perimeter on the far side of the graveyard close to some blue fireflies. Near the exit (the crypt locked with the code).
4
In a mausoleum left of the spawn point, on the floor. You need to break in with the hammer.
3
In a mausoleum to the right of the exit. You need to break in with the hammer.
5
As you are making your escape, the last duck is sitting on a shelf next to some skulls on the right wall, past the second door you break down following the scene.

Stage 3-3: Library Memory
Ducks: 7

3
Right in front of you when you spawn.
7
From the spawn point, turn around and follow the bookshelves to the wall where there will be an opening you can squeeze through. The duck is back here, behind the bookcases.
6
In the maze, on a bookshelf near the copier. If you have trouble finding this one, I recommend finishing the maze and then backtracking. From the end of the maze, it is easy to backtrack to the copier; the duck will be on the shelf in front of you when you find it.
5
In the room after the maze, on the desk in the leftmost cubicle.
4
In the same room as the previous duck, on the floor in the middle of the room, between rows of chairs.
1
On the floor of the out-of-order elevator. You can see it Peking through the doors.
2
On the desk at the very end of the level, where you choose a cube. It is behind the blue (left) cube.
Duck Locations IV
Angelina Smallhouse: The Water Temple
Ducks: 2

You can't come back here once you leave for the next area, so make sure you don't miss these two.

1
Turn right from the spawn point and investigate the hole in the wall where the water flows in. You will need to crouch to examine it.
2
Sitting in the fire between the angel statues at the bottom of the stairs, in front of the door you turn the wheels to open.

Monorail Station
Ducks: 1

1
Sitting on top of the Tiki Lounge terminal, between the 3 and 6 terminals/puzzle transporters (the platform opposite where you are let off the monorail). You will need to jump to reach it.

Mainframe
Ducks: 1

1
Sitting on the stairs in front of the exit after you've solved the bell puzzle and axe puzzle.

@Smilehoho I feel your pain. :( I would have appreciated an explicit "point of no return" warning. I liked the game and don't mind to replay it, but it sucks to have your collectibles reset.

@thejokeriswild I actually am not sure I knew that myself! Guide updated with credit. Thanks!

One thing I didn't notice mentioned in this guide is, if you finish a level and then go back in for the ducks you missed, once you're done finding them you can just exit through the green entrance cube and you'll still get a completed scrapbook without havimg to finish the level all over again.

Thanks to you, Master Reboot is my 2nd 100%-ed game! I used your guide to find all ducks, and found all Virus marks too, and I played it with welsh language. This was my 2d playthrough, and I found all ducks, without any problem. It is a very good guide, thanks for it!
