1. Gold is KING

I wish I knew that levelling Gold reward in the shipyard increased EVERYTHING to do with gold and not just the patrol bounties.

Took me a week to figure out that levelling this up made my research at the Dev Center go insane and made my runs 4 times faster.
2. Fire rate reduction
I was doing automated runs to a level divided by 100 for max SP per minute (for my level).
Once you start to one shot everything you will want fire rate increase.

I wish I knew that the % Fire rate increase in previously finished patrol or raid upgrade gets reduced once the enemy level is within 100 of your max level. It will be reduced to nothing once the enemy level is at your max level. I discovered this slowly from personal experience.

I now have my auto run finishing before the enemy level reaches within 100 of my max level for full efficiency. This was done by lowering the Min Auto Ship Reset into the negatives and by changing some priorities on my Dev Center research so I would get more XP gain.
3. Chance to skip completion in previously finished patrol is good!

So I thought this would also skip the gold reward I got from each patrol repeat, so why would I want to skip free gold?

I wish I knew that there was a total gold reward that is split evenly between each patrol repeat. This means that if you can skip all repeats and reduce a patrol to 1/1 mission then the total reward is given on that one mission. This cuts a lot of time off your runs.

I believe that you still miss out on some scrap and exp from the extra repeats, but I am not sure.
4. There are Events!

I wish I knew there were events available, because some of the rewards include the starter weapons.

According to my Counters screen I have been playing for 10 days up to the time of writing this review. That's 10 days of no events. Also I believe the event timers are global so the longer you wait before you get them the less event time you have remaining.

To get these events you'll have to get onto the IdleSpaceRaider discord. You'll find a link in the options.

Once there go to the #general channel and open the pinned messages there to find what you need (file download). Instructions are there too.

Here's a list of the rewards you get from the event 'Power of Beginning'.
Scrap and Gold scale to your current level.
5. Mining Squad Automation Buy Interval drama

I wish I knew maxing the buy interval of Automation Mining Squad would make it become 0.1 seconds.

If you were like me and enjoyed using your scrap on levelling weapons first, then modules, then mining squads then this is not for you. A buy interval of 0.1 seconds means you will almost instantly buy mining squads as soon as you have enough scrap for it, leaving weapons buy interval 1 second and modules buy interval 5 seconds unable to compete. Weapons and modules get the leftover scrap after the mining squads are done.

I am assuming it's like this because later in the game you will want mining squads first, but for early game it's not the best (in my opinion).
Last. Random tips from a noob
Here are some random things I found out before it was too late so they don't qualify for my *wish* list.
They could be potentially just as useful info.

1. Ability efficiency doesn't affect the increased fire rate buff on abilities.
2. Can't ship reset if your ship level is more than 50 levels higher than the enemy level.
3. Ammo mods disappear forever if they run out of time. At least it did on the common one I tested (was hoping I kept it with 0 time).

Thanks for reading! I may add more stuff as I play the game if I find out more tips I wish I knew when I started.

I found this guide after starting the game. I joined the discord to find out that the events had ended and I missed out.

Decided to try this and it worked for me.

Manually adjust your date/time on your computer to March 10th 2021 and you will have access to the two events. Once you are finished with them simply set the date/time back to normal.

Expanding on the exp trap, its not as if there is an upside to exp in the first place, your goal is to stretch as far as you can in a run, to get more sp/kp. Every bit of medals and coin you put into it is one you don't put into gold, dmg, scrap or mining. Gold will increase your xp, gold is king.

Source, 431 upgrades in the academy (x72 xp) and 20 upgrades in isr (x34 xp), barely scraping through 6k levels months into the game, since "hey, I deal enough damage, so I want to go faster, right? SP will carry me". 3 weeks later after reversing my strategy to heavily focus gold, I am now clearing L12000 and getting so much more kp.

Also save your EAMD for real modules, maybe like lvl 4 on the starters just to help you get going.

Getting a good baseline of TARL before chasing down a lvl 20 is a big boost too, as it bumps the starting level of your shipyard upgrades. Get a few early weapons and modules, but don't go nuts with it.

Oh and the first event has now ended again and will need a newer file to reactivate it.

Ability efficiency increases 1 specific part of each ability and it is extremely powerful late game. You can utilise it to get 100% ability cooldown whenever rage triggers. A couple of tips from me that that may or may not be in my guide.
1: Always increase XP gains last. This is a massive trap that you can fall into early on.
2: Don't buy cooldown in the void lab. It is bugged and instead of being a multiplier it adds to the times.
3: When using rage to reduce cooldowns don't increase it's duration it only reduces cooldowns when it is first activated.
4: Automation only works when in IDLE mode.
5: Save the free coins for permanent IDLE it is well worth it.
