Introduction
1.1 What is Starship EVO?

Starship EVO is a voxel-based sci-fi space building game that was funded on Kickstarter. The game was developed by Francois “Tsunamayo” Duret and his cat Austin. The game’s graphics have also been overhauled thanks to an artist on the team.

Starship EVO is a voxel construction game set in a procedural galaxy made of billions of stars.

Play with your friends, use blocks, bricks and paints to create the spaceship of your dreams and discover a galaxy full of wonders.

Whether you choose to build a small starfighter with fancy details and mechanisms, or a massive capital ship with a full interior that will keep you busy for weeks, Starship EVO gives you the tools to unleash your creativity.

The game offers to merge the excitement of exploring uncharted worlds as in Elite, with the elegant and simple joy of building in Minecraft. ”

1.2 What is this guide?
This is a guide for any shipwright looking to build a masterpiece! You’ve seen the sights and sounds, done the work and saved up and now finally you’ve gotten your hands on a Multi Tool! And hopefully the game as well. This guide will hopefully get you up to date with what’s in the game and ready to build a fantastique starship or hovercraft or whatever your beautiful mind can come up with I guess... Well, what are you waiting for? Keep Reading!
Multitool Basics: Intro to the Multi Tool
2.1 Intro to the Multi Tool

That wacky orange thing in your right hand is your Multi Tool. From repairing to painting it can do it all. Here is a picture of your new best friend if you aren’t already familiar:

If you just got into the game you might not see it since your inventory is empty. To open the Codex of your Multi Tool press [TAB] on your keyboard. The Codex is the menu in your Multi Tool. Here you can do many things like changing your movement mode, select some tools to work with, or set up your inventory for later use. Since this is the intro lets list the cool features:

  • Press [TAB] to open and close the Codex, you can also press [ESC] twice but that will take you to the game menu screen and then out.... so I’d stick with [TAB].

  • While in the Codex hover over items to see a description about it. Click and Drag items that are in the Tools, Blocks, Paints, or Decals tab to your Hotbar to use them.

  • The three Hotbars below the main screen of the Codex can be cleared by clicking the trashcan icon beside them. You can also clear items individually by [SHIFT] CLICKING on what you want to remove.

  • When outside of your codex you probably want to be able to switch between Hotbars. To do so hold [SHIFT] and scroll.

And that’s your sweet and short intro to the Multi Tool. Now let’s move on to the first page of the Codex, Movement Modes.
Multitool Basics: Movement Modes
2.2 Movement Modes

So by default, the Codex opens to the Movement Modes menu. Here you can select how you wanna move around. Make sure you pick the right one! With any of these modes selected you can use [WASD] to move around like in every other game.

--
‘None’ is simply walking. You can also jump but for the most part, select this when you are under the influence of gravity and want to be under its FULL influence. Having this mode selected when in space will leave you s t r a n d e d! If this happens the game will blast you with warnings so be prepared!!!
--
‘JetPack’ is kinda like ‘None’ but you have an extended Jump. Pretty self-explanatory but in case you’re curious here is a full description:

‘JetPack’ is walking but with a JetPack on so you will get the expected jump boost and ability to ‘fly’ in the air while under the influence of gravity. Having this mode selected when in space will leave you s t r a n d e d! If this happens the game will blast you with warnings so be prepared!!!
--
‘Anti-gravitation’ lets you really fly in the sky. No longer shall gravity hold you down! You are free like a bird or something!? With this mode selected you can use [WASD] to move like before but if you press [SPACE] you will move upwards and not fall back down. Press [CTRL] to fly downwards in case you missed having your feet on the ground. If you feel a bit slow you can press [SHIFT] to sprint. You can also manipulate your speed with [ the ] brackets. This mode is different from the next mode ‘Full 6 degrees-of-freedom’ since although you are free from gravity’s clutches you still adhere to its rules about the space around you. (You will align to the gravity field)
--
Oh, I see... you want to fly like an omnidirectional space bird huh. Well, then this is the mode for you. ‘Full 6 degrees-of-freedom’ Will let you fly around in space just like you could in ‘Anti-gravitation’ but with added functionality. Press [Q] and [E] to tilt your body to the perfect increment. Now not even gravity can decide which way is up! HAHAHA HA! Okay, that was weird... let’s move on to the next page of the Codex, Tools.
Multitool Basics: Tools
2.3 Tools

--
Tools are exactly what you expect, tools. In this guide, we will explore the five tools currently available in-game: REPAIR, LINK, SYMMETRY, ANTI-GRAV, and the CONNECT STATION TOOL.

--
REPAIR: Yea that wrench lookin’ icon that’s the REPAIR Tool. Use it to repair your crafts by hand. Click and Drag it into your Hotbar when you want to use it. When selected the tool will show all the areas on the ship the need repair in a holographic green. Click and Hold to fire the repair laser.

--
LINK: Right beside the REPAIR tool is the LINK tool, use it to link up your logic and other linkable elements like lights and windows… ok, I’m kidding you can’t link up windows… or can you??? Like the tool before it Click and Drag it into your Hotbar when you want to use it. When selected you can Click and Hold on a linkable element to start a link. Place the link over the object you want to LINK TO and let go to link it. Simple as that.

--
SYMMETRY: Right next to the LINK Tool is SYMMETRY use this to set up a mirror on your build. As of the version this guide was written for you cannot have multiple Mirror Planes. Click and Drag it into your Hotbar when you want to use it. When selected a Mirror Plane will appear where your cursor is when hovering on your build. Press [Q] or [E] to rotate the plane around X Y and Z, Line it up, then Click to place it! Just like a block although we haven’t gotten to that yet. Easy Peasy

--
ANTI-GRAV: Looks like a Magnet with Lightning sticking out of it on both sides, yea that’s the ANTI-GRAV tool. Use it to push things around in space or more importantly to flip your hovercraft after a fatal crash. Click and Drag it into your Hotbar when you want to use it. When selected you can Click and Hold to charge up a blast of manipulative energy or Click once for a quick burst. Now back to Hovering.

--
CONNECT STATION TOOL: The newest tool in the tool menu. Use this tool to connect station modules. Simple click the first CONNECTOR and then click the CONNECTOR you want to attach it to. BAM modular stations have never been easier. Want to be even fancier? Press [Q] and [E] or [R] and [SHIFT+R] to rotate before placing!

Well, those are all the tools in the Tools Tab of the Codex. Let’s move on to the Blueprint Menu
Multitool Basics: Blueprint Menu
2.4 Blueprint Menu

--
Now let’s talk about the Hidden Tab in the Codex the Blueprint Menu. This Tab shows up when you have a build selected.

TO SELECT A BUILD: Update it by placing a block on it or painting it. The Ship should now be selected and the Blueprint Menu tab should show up in the Codex.

--
Within this TAB you have a few options all of which pertain to the build you have selected. Starting from the top left you can see the name of your build. In this case, I have named it “VOI-AC08 Dra”. Beside it, you can click the pencil icon and edit its name. On the other side of the name is the EXPORT button. Click this to export your build to:

%UserProfile%\AppData\LocalLow\Moonfire Entertainment\Starship EVO\Save_Data/Blueprints

Underneath the name of your build, you can find some of its stats such as Heat, Energy, and Dimensions. To the right of the stats, you can find a thumbnail of your build with REPAIR and UNSPAWN ENTITY buttons below it. The REPAIR button will repair everything that needs repairing on the build and is a useful alternative to the REPAIR tool. The UNSPAWN ENTITY button will as stated unspawn your entity to the depths of despair never to be seen again. Make sure you really want to do this because it will be lost forever (A long time!) unless you saved it or something.

That should be everything you need to know about the Blueprint Tab of the Codex. Let’s move on.
Multitool Basics: Teleport
2.5 Teleport

--
The Teleport Tab is a useful tab to have on hand. With it, you can teleport to any craft in your world if they have a teleport block. As well as a few locations (as of the version this guide was written for). Click the tab and choose a location and get going!

--
And there you have it, Multi Tool Basics.

Chapter 5: Building

  • Now that you are ready to build lets learn a few more keybinds:

  • Left CLICK to place, Right CLICK to remove blocks and bricks and stuff

  • [R] to rotate. Use [SHIFT] + [R] to rotate in the other direction. If this doesn’t work that means your keybinds are still set to [Q] and [E].

  • CLICK and drag to stretch blocks and bricks and stuff.

Thats should be all. Want more insider info? Press [F2] to hide the UI. Press [F6] to activate photo mode.

I suggest, in the cool tips section, to add that you can access the tiny blocks via the f1 menu and changing the grid settings.

@Safety_Doggo I would use a sequence gate. So Button -> Sequence Gate -> Mechanism. Then edit the ON and OFF state in the sequence gate by pressing F on it.

Kind of a dumb question but how do you connect buttons to hinges and ETC?
Aiwi  [author] 5 Sep, 2020 @ 3:21pm
Pimp Dagoth there is no mass paint or pre paint options sadly

Is there a way to place blocks already painted? or do I have to go through and paint them all afterwards?

Also is there like a mass paint option, to paint a large area, like in SE?
