Flying with the Dodo
By executλble
In Grand Theft Auto III, there's a plane with clipped wings, called Dodo. It's not meant to be flyable, but there's a trick that you can use to actually fly with it througout the city. This is the guide that will show you how to fly that thing.

Setting the Controls
Before flying the Dodo, there is one thing you need to take a look at - the controls. By default, the controls are set to numpad keys, but you might want to make them a bit more comfortable and use the arrow keys instead. If you don't want to change the controls or have them already set, you can skip this step.
Open up the Option menu and get to redefining controls.
It's recommended that you set the controls like this:
  • Turret / Dodo Up - Down (arrow)
  • Turret / Dodo Down - Up (arrow)
This should give you a GTA: San Andreas style of ascending and descending while flying the plane.
Getting the Dodo
The Dodo plane becomes available at the Francis International Airport (Shoreside Vale island) after beating the mission Grand Theft Aero.

There are a few Dodos that you can find in that airport - you may pick the one that's in the hangar or the one near the runway.

Once you get one of the Dodo's, get to the beginning of the runway and try to face the city.
Taking off!
There are a few things that you might want to know before actually flying the plane:
  • Once you are airborne, you must keep the plane in a stable position, or else it will start falling. An easy way to know if your plane is stable is to watch it's nose - the red part should be visible only by a little. You can also use the keys to change the camera to a side view if that's better for you.
  • The plane may sometimes start to freak out and make it very hard to control it. It is unknown as to why it happens, but if it does, try not to panic and keep your plane as stable as possible!
  • Try not to brake, because the Dodo will lose all of it's speed quickly and your plane might start falling.
  • Do not fly over unique jumps as that will trigger slow motion gameplay which will stay there until you land on the ground.

This is the part that we've all been waiting for - we're finally going to fly the Dodo now.

When you're in the position on the runway, start accelerating (hold W) and hold the Up arrow (Dodo down). This might sound odd, but we want the plane's nose to point down. This is actually the easiest method to take-off.
Keep holding the Up arrow and accelerating until the propeller touches the ground and starts making sparks - this is the part where you release the Up arrow.

TIP: Using the side view of the plane makes it a lot easier to know when to release the arrow key.

As you can see, your plane actually starts to fly upwards quickly. Don't let it go too high and balance it out once you have some height.

You are now flying the Dodo! If you need to descend or ascend, gently tap the Up or Down arrow keys. Don't hold them for too long or your plane might start falling without a possiblity to recover.
Steering the Dodo
To steer the Dodo, simply tap the directional keys gently and your Dodo will start making a turn. It might be tricky at first but after some practice you'll be able to control your Dodo like a boss and fly as long as you like!

Congratulations - You are now able to fly the Dodo without any additional struggle. If you have any questions or problems, feel free to ask in the comments section. Feedback is appreciated too.

Its actually really funny flying around because its clear you weren't meant to. Since most roofs are non solid and blue hell is easy to achieve. I will note however that the dodo likes to stall if you tilt up at all. It's best to just let it go up on its own while also tilting down here and there
