Thanks jurij.sikorsky.
What is a necessary condition is providing a server certificate and key. Some providers might be able to arrange this for you, or you can obtain it externally and provide to the web provider youself.
The certificate is generally not a free service, starting from 5-7$/year. But there is also a totally free service called Let's Encrypt [letsencrypt.org].
Feel free to contact me via PM or here if needed.
Yes, I discovered a while back that because I hosted my huge number of small images on my own web site, with an http:// address, because other image hosting options kept letting me down, you explanation is indeed correct.
I would much prefer solution #1, but I am not sure how to go about it. I don't mind the effort, and I can get every image reference from my blog automatically changed with a script. What I don't know is how to get my web host provider to set up an https:// version of my image store. Any guidance greatly appreciated!
The issue with Chrome (and Edge) browser is very unpleasant (affects roughly 2/3 of all web users), but fortunately can be fixed.
The problem is that the site (categorian.com) is HTTPS, but refers HTTP images from external site, which is not allowed by default in recent Chrome browser.
There are two possible solutions:
1. upgrade tooby.uk to https:// (preferred, but requires some effort from your side)
2. Allow insecure content for the categorian.com site in Chrome - guide [experienceleague.adobe.com] (a bit of giving up security and requires some effort from every Chrome reader, but works instantly)
Without commenting on their opinion, I suggest that this is the wrong place to make such a comment.
