Switch Controller Guide for Havel Monsters
Oleh kolaborator ZEARTH dan 1
Do you want to use a Switch Pro Controller for Dark Souls 3 and other games on Steam? Well, look no further.

This goes over getting the controller hooked up to your PC, calibrating it, and then setting it up for Dark Souls 3 specifically.
It took me awhile to do it properly and there were not guides for Dark Souls 3 in particular so I decided to help out since...
I can't buy another XBox controller in quarantine and batteries get expensive and hey, maybe you can't either.

INTRODUCTION
Hey, you. Yes, YOU. Ever wanted to play Dark Souls 3 on PC with a Switch Pro Controller? Of course you have and now here's your handy-dandy guide. It's a bit of a doozy though but it'll be all worth it. Maybe. I don't know.

CONNECTING TO YOUR PC
Skip if you already have your controller connected.

Step 1: Disconnect Your Controller From Your Switch

Unfortunately you can't just stick the usb cable into your PC and get it to sync that way. So, you'll just have to do it the hard way. Turn on your switch, go to System Settings -> Controllers and Sensors (towards the bottom) -> Disconnect Controllers. This will de-sync all your controllers so your Switch forgets your controller ever existed.

Step 2: Turn on Bluetooth and Begin Syncing

On your computer, go to Settings -> Bluetooth and other devices or just type Bluetooth into the search bar. It'll come up. Click "Add Bluetooth or other device" and select Bluetooth. Then, hit the sync button your Switch Pro controller. It's a small button the top of the controller.
The controller should show up on your computer as "Pro Controller." Now you're all ready for the actual painful parts.
MAKING IT NOT HORRIBLE
Upon booting up Dark Souls, you'll quickly realize it has no idea what you just did. Even with games that are Switch Pro Controller compatible like Dragon's Dogma, it will have major sensitivity issues so you need to calibrate it.

Step 3: Calibrate Your Controller

With the controller paired, go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Devices and Printer -> Pro Controller. Right click on the the controller and go to Game Controller Settings -> Properties -> Settings -> Calibrate. This should take you to a setup wizard. Follow its instructions and you'll be golden. Since this is in the actual system settings, this should also fix a lot of controller problems for other games as well.

Step 4: Turn Off That Mouse Gyro

One of Valve's greatest ideas was to allow you to use the gyro in your controller so you could use your controller like a mouse. This is absolutely horrible for playing the actual game. You'll want to turn this off ASAP. First, you'll have to unfortunately launch Big Picture Mode. It's right next to your name in the top right corner actually it's the box with the two arrows. From Big Picture Mode go to Library -> Dark Souls 3 -> Manage Game -> Controller Settings. This will bring you to a controller menu. Click on the gyro or use your controller and change it from Mouse to None. Trust me. None is the correct answer. Finally, go your right joystick should turn from "Joystick Mouse" to "Joystick Move" make sure to set RS as well. You must do this for both the Game configuration and the Menu configuration!

Step 5: Swap Some Controls
Most of the other buttons are okay if you can get used to them but I suggest swapping the X and Y buttons at least so your muscle memory for chugging estus and switching to two handed isn't messed up. I personally left the A and B alone but that depends on what you're used to in general. Click on the buttons and simple swap them around so X = Y and vice versa. Change the Menu controls as well so that the triggers are Right Trigger instead of Left Mouse and the same for the Left Trigger. You must do this for both the Game and Menu configurations!
Here is my current setup. I got used to the A and B buttons but the X and Y are swapped. Here's a link to it if you're lazy. steam://controllerconfig/374320/2097888459

TROUBLESHOOTING/QUESTIONS
I don't know what questions you'll have in particular but I can make some reasonable guesses based on what problems I had. I'm repeating some things I have already said because I have 0 int and I assume you do too.

Why does my mouse move with the joystick?

Simple. Your joystick is set to "Joystick Mouse" and not "Joystick Move." Make sure to also set the click action to RS.

Why did my controls swap back to trash?

You forgot to change the menu controls as well. Just make them the same as your game controls.

Do I need to always launch Big Picture Mode? I don't like it.

Me neither. You don't need to launch it from Big Picture Mode. Just make sure Steam notifies you that it picked up on your controller. Don't disable the pop-up either since it's useful.

Should I level Dex?

No.

Can I just import a preexisting control scheme from the community?

Yes. Go for it but just know what to look for to make sure it has everything.

Why does pressing the Home button increase my volume sometimes?

Fantastic question.

That about does it. If you have any more questions, leave them down below or just on my profile. I don't care which. Hell, spam them both. I like attention. Hope this guide helped in some way.Int is just blue Dex.

@KneeCapThief can you elaborate a bit? Did you launch the game from Big Picture Mode? Did you go to the Controller Settings in Big Picture mode and enable Switch Controller Configuration? Is it just in menus because they use two separate configs so you have to do those as well.
