  • Don't tranquilize after holding them up:










  • Don't kill them either:










  • Instead, throw your weapons away (just holster them, save your ammo) :










  • Clench your fists, and punch them a couple of times. (guards with better armor need more punching) :













    Congrats! You've learned to knockout the guards!

On Quest 2 you can hit a guard on the head with your tranq pistol to get a one hit knockout.

You have lots of options. The repair tool knocks them out like a tazer. You can pistol whip them. You can even take their weapon from their hand and hit them with it.
