1. Boost Over Ball
Try to Remember to not go boost over ball when playing. What does this mean? This means any action that gives up good positioning in exchange for a full boost pad. If you often find yourself doing this, try to focus on picking up the small pads when rotating and your boost management. To improve boost management, try the custom workshop map Speed Jump: Boost - By DMC.
2. Backpost rotations
An very common error made when rotating back on defense is not going backpost. Many players tend to panic when rotating back and this leads to cutting rotation and double commits. To avoid this, simply rotate around the backpost when going back on defense.
3. Tactical Bumps and Demos
Just to clarify, this does not mean sitting on the opponent's side like a blood thirsty predator only chasing bumps and demos. This means tactically going for a bump or a demo to create a free path or a scoring opportunity for a teammate. This can also be used when rotating back to bump the opponents second man so that the opponent on the ball does not have anybody to center the ball to.
Top 3 Mechanics
1. Fast Aerials
A very important aerial mechanic to improve your speed against higher ranked players is the fast aerial. To get good at fast aerials, download BakkesMod and use the freeplay tools "Rebound Plugin" and "Redirect Plugin" and focusing on getting to the ball as fast as possible. To do a fast aerial, you have to jump, pull back, and jump again all while boosting.
2. Backboard Reads
Backboard reads are essential in both offense and defense. On offense they are primarily used to score, but can also be used to pass to another teammate or go for a backboard double touch. On defense, these are used to clear the ball bouncing off your backboard while sitting in net. To improve on these, you can use the BakkesMod freeplay tool previously listed "Rebound Plugin". You can also use these training packs:

3. Recovery Mechanics
The two most important recovery mechanics are half-flips and wavedashes. To half-flip, you do a backflip and flip cancel it, then when you have flip cancelled air roll so that your wheels are on the ground. To do a wavedash, you do a flip into the ground and hold your powerslide button to keep momentum going. The best way to learn these is by consistently practicing them in freeplay.

WOW! Ever since I started to play, I was between silver and gold. But as soon as I seen this post. My ranks have sky rocketed. Now I compete against low grand champ players. Truly this author is so correct on all his ideas and thoughts. @CubeOf1ce you are now my hero. I have to do a school report on my here, but now I figured out who I will interview. My 3 questions are, "What encourage you as a child to be where you are now?" "Did you have an easy life, was everything given to you or did you earn them?" "What are 3 pieces of advice would you give to family and friends?" Thanks again for being such a hero to me and my friends. Take care!

Myew I definitely recommend sticking with controller, most pros do play with it

Myew, most pros play on controller. A minority of high-level players play on KBM, but you do see it. Notably: Fruity, zen and Yukeo all use KBM

So, I'm curious, do most pros play with mouse and keyboard or controller? I use a Dual Shock 4 on PC. Wondering if I need to learn to use a mouse to get better, just be such a pain to relearn after hundreds of hours of muscle memory.
