Introduction

^ FarmBots are added in the recent Survival Update (Beta 0.4.0), which are very hostile and can kill you if not careful. (learn more)[scrapmechanic.gamepedia.com]

^ This is the basic "Hit and Run" Tactic, which is risky and ineffective against large groups of Bots.

^ This is the advanced "Backpedal" Tactic, which is safe against 1 or 2 bots but no more than that, as other bots at the back will push the attacking bot very close to you.

^ This is the advanced "I Have The High Ground" Tactic, which allows you to attack groups of Bots without getting hurt. The Bots will attack your Lift and gradually lower it 1 block at a time though.

^ But if you are a Jedi like me, you can use "The Force" and hold down the Up Arrow. This will prevent the Lift from lowering at all. (probably a bug)
Surviving Night Attacks (Raids)
Raids get harder depending on the number/ value of crops, the level of crops, and how many continuous nights you have been farming. For beginner farms, only a handful of Totebots and Haybots would appear. (learn more)[scrapmechanic.gamepedia.com]

^ You might want to build a base with defensive systems in the midgame. However, base designing is out of the scope of this guide. I suggest using ScrapMan's Bumpy Ground Trap, as it is fairly basic but efficient. As for pacifists, try building your farm on top of steep hills surrounding Farmers' Hideout[scrapmechanic.fandom.com].

^ You only need a Hammer and a Lift for this trick to work, which will never be dropped upon death.

^ A Red Countdown will appear as soon as you grow any plants.

^ Step 1: Enclose your farm with Wood Blocks you get from Hammering Trees. If you don't have enough blocks, hold Right Click on the "Soil Tiles" to relocate them and move them closer together.

^ Step 2: Place the Lift near your farm, stand on it and hold Up Arrow. Go AFK until the countdown reaches 0.

^ Here They Come!

^ Step 3: Since they cannot reach the Soil, they will target you instead. Each of their attacks will lower you Lift by 1 block, but you can compensate this by Holding Up Arrow.

^ Step 4: They will run away in fear after 4:00 am. While in retreat, they will not attack you, even if you chase them down or Hammer them to death.
Fighting Green Bots (Totebots)

^ Totebots are the first enemies that you will encounter. Each of their attacks only deals 15 damage, with a significant delay between each attack, so they shouldn't be able to kill you in normal circumstances. (learn more)[scrapmechanic.gamepedia.com]

- - - - - Tactic - - - - -

^ Step 1: If you are in low health, gradually place the Lift closer to the green bot.

^ Step 2: Rise and shine...

^ Step 3: Slowly lower the Lift, until you can hit it but still outside its attacking range.

^ Step 4: Hit it twice and immediately raise the Lift, then give it your final blow.
Fighting Orange Bots (Haybots)
^ Haybots are the second enemy type that you will have to deal with. Each of their Stab Attacks deals 20 damage, and their Swing Attacks (counter-attacks) deal 30 damage. Backpedalling can effectively avoid their attacks, and Water Buckets can be used to stun a group of haybots. They will also give up attacking eventually if you stand on the Lift for too long. (learn more)[scrapmechanic.gamepedia.com]

- - - - - Tactic - - - - -

^ Step 1: Decide whether to use the Backpedal Tactic (1 to 2) or High Ground Tactic (3 or more), depending on the number of haybots.

^ Step 2: Should you fail to Backpedal, use the Lift immediately.

^ Step 3: Gradually lower the Lift, strike once, and then immediately raise the Lift or risk being knocked off by their counter-attacks. If that's the case, keep running straight and place a Lift in front of you, then jump on it and raise its height.

^ Step 4: They will eventually stare at you in disgust. Wait for them to walk away before lowering the Lift and retreat.
Fighting Boss Bots (Farmbots)

^ Farmbots are the third (and the most difficult) enemy type that you will have to kill. Each of their Kick Attacks deals 10 damage, and their Swipe Attacks deals 35 damage. They also shoot Pesticide Clouds that deal 4 damage On Impact, and deal 10 damage for every second you stay inside it. They are immune to Hammer attacks, so you must use Spudguns/ 2 Explosive Canisters to take them down, or Crush them with Heavy Vehicles. (learn more)[scrapmechanic.gamepedia.com]

- - - - - Tactic - - - - -

Method 1: Run & Gun

^ Run. Once you have gained some distance, Backpedal and land a few shots, then Repeat the process.

^ Build a simple Wall with a Hole to shoot through, then use a Spudling Gun to bait the Farmbot. Switch to a Spud Shotgun before the Farmbot starts attacking the Wall.

Method 3: SunShake Truck

^ Ram the Farmbot with a Heavy Truck at Full Speed. Do keep in mind that physics-based damage is quite inconsistent, so multiple attempts are usually required.

^ Stand in a high position (behind cover preferably) to counter their Pesticide Clouds, then snipe with a Spudgun. Alternatively, build a platform with a ceiling on a Lift and raise it to maximum height.
Fighting Sniper Bots (Tapebots)

^ Tapebots are the last enemy type that you will struggle with. Blue Tapebots deal 55 damage with accurate aim, while Red Tapebots deal 14-62 damage with explosive rounds. When they die, their self-destructions will launch <their respective projectiles> in all directions. They have very little health and will die instantly from a headshot. (learn more)[scrapmechanic.gamepedia.com]

^ BANG! You are basically screwed at this range.

- - - - - Tactic - - - - -

Method 1: Clutch

^ Snipe. If you run out of ammo, use covers to your advantage and spiral towards the Tapebot, then finish it with a Hammer.

^ Cover up your tank Entirely with Lv.3 Metal (including the wheels), and bring a few spare parts for repair.

^ I would suggest mounting the Spud Turret at the rear, and install an extendable Front Shield (sort of like Spaced Armour[en.wikipedia.org]) to reduce explosion damage.

Trivia/ Extra Tips
  • This guide is originally written to document my discovery of "The Lift Tactic" (a.k.a. I Have The High Ground), though ScrapMan released his video before I finished writing this guide, so I didn't leave any credits for the "Introduction" section as I assume most people had the same idea.
  • Bots will trip over when walking downstairs. You can exploit this property with Bumpy Ground Trap.
  • ScrapMan's favourite tactic is "The Lift Tactic", as he proudly demonstrated on Episode 6.
  • Totebots and Haybots are afraid of Saw Blades and Drills, even when they are static.
  • Both small and large explosive canisters seem to deal the same amount of damage.

@FishCat27 According to the reddit poster, the farmbot he crushed was heavily damaged, so the sunshake van isn't as impressive as you think. Still, it is a cool moment!

@CaelenG you can find guides on building combat vehicles and base protection traps from kAN Gaming and Scrapman. I'm removing our conversation here and you may continue our discussion in forums instead, since your questions are unrelated to the purpose of this particular guide :p2chell:

@Durp Ragdoll-ing can happen if it kicks you upward and you take fall damage. Not sure why you got slowed down tho, probably the bug which makes you walk at crawling speed when holding a spudgun.

So I tried to fight a Farmbot for the first time today, but I got thwocked because I was suddenly unable to run. Are they able to do that?

@BlueRaven307 Again, it would make trading stations less meaningful. You already have to fight farmbots before you explore the warehouses to get the seeds. @djkienzle then they first need to add personal armour XD Can't imagine a totebot dealing 70 damage in 1 hit...
