Getting started
First thing first, after dowloading the game, right click on it from the library list to open its properties. After this, select Local Files from the window that will open. From there, click on Browse Local Files. Doing so will lead you to the main directory of the game, which is

C:/ Program Files (x86)/ Steam/ SteamApps/ Common/ Deadlight Director's cut
Controller emulator program
Now, I've used a generic Xbox controller-type for this, and to make it work I downloaded and used x360CE[www.x360ce.com]. This controller emulator let you to use your controller on any game; it's fairly easy to understand it, just follow the instructions on the site and it will work fine. I've been using this for Dark Souls 3 and other games that strictly require a controller such as Super Meat Boy. Yes, I do understand some might prefer keyboard movements (and so do I) but there are times in which this simply means making your life a living hell. Anyway, download it and exctract it on a different folder (it will be a .zip file) accordingly to your system (either x32 or x64); don't worry if you download the wrong version, the program itself will warn you when you run it the first time.
Finding the right path
Now as I said in the previous section, instructions are already on site, but sometimes it may be quite difficult to find the right path, like in this case (I wouldn't be here to write this guide otherwise). After many many trials and errors, I found that the right one to install emulator programs for this game is

C:/ Program Files (x86)/ Steam/ SteamApps/ Common/ Deadlight Director's cut/ Binaries/ Win64

If you followed my steps before, you should be already at that up until /Deadlight DIrector's cut, so it will be piece of cake.
Correct installation of the emulator program
The final step; when you're in the right path, connect your controller to the PC and simply put x360CE.exe in the C:/ Program Files (x86)/ Steam/ SteamApps/ Common/ Deadlight Director's cut/ Binaries/ Win64 directory; start it. It will now tell you that the config file is not there (which is obvious as you have just started it for the first time); just press "ok" to the following windows and it will automatically create the config file for your controller; do a test when it's done, and try to move and click the various parts on the controller. If you get a green output on the corresponding controller on screen, it's done. Press Save and exit. Now run the game and have fun.
In conclusion
Doing so, the game should understand the difference between a controller input and keyboard input; I had this issue where the game would not understand which was which and kept me giving suggestions controller related when I was using the keyboard, and vice versa. After this, the game pretty much fixed itself for me.

Again, this just worked for xbox type controllers. If it doesn't work for you, try another guide please.

I hope this will help you just as it helped me. Have a nice day.

This was an xbox live arcade title. Shouldnt controller support be baked in?
