SETUP
Important Points:
  • Command : Modern Operations (C:MO) uses real-time telemetry which is a feature of Tacview Advanced, so make sure you have purchased and installed Tacview Advanced: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1177050/Tacview_Advanced/ .
  • Respecting the wishes of C:MO, no ACMI recordings will be generated by Tacview during use with C:MO
  • Customizations such as adding your own database entries and/or 3D objects are generally not available when using Tacview with C:MO because C:MO's declarations override Tacview's. Terrain customization is possible - see further down on this page.
  • C:MO controls most of Tacview's UI features to provide a homogeneous experience. Manipulation of the 3D view is limited to zooming in and out using the mouse wheel and rotating around the selected object using the right mouse button.
Select the correct executable:
In C:MO, go to Game -> Game Options -> Tacview
Select the correct executable. If you have purchased Tacview Advanced through Steam, the executable will be something like
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Tacview\Tacview64.exe for 64-bit or
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Tacview\Tacview.exe for 32-bit.
If you have purchased Tacview Advanced through the website, the executable will be something like:
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Tacview\Tacview64.exe for 64-bit or
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Tacview\Tacview.exe for 32-bit.
PLAY
After launching a battle or campaign in C:MO, go to View -> 3D View to open a window within C:MO where Tacview will display real-time information from the battlefield.

Use the mouse wheel to scroll in and out, and the right mouse button to rotate around.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Why are some units appearing underground or under water?

There may initially be discrepancies between Tacview's native elevation data and the elevation data used by C:MO. To resolve this issue, download SRTM30 plus files from

http://topex.ucsd.edu/pub/srtm30_plus/srtm30/data/

and place them in the folder

%ProgramData%\Tacview\Data\Terrain\SRTM30\

Why don't I see the same terrain textures in Tacview as in C:MO?

If you would like to see the same terrain textures in Tacview as in C:MO, download the images here:

http://warfaresims.slitherine.com/Tacview_Textures/

To keep your system operating at peak performance, it is recommended to take only the tiles that you need in order to run your favourite campaigns and battles.

Place the images in the folder

%ProgramData%\Tacview\Data\Terrain\Textures\ .

Close and re-launch Tacview in order to view the textures.

This is super broken with CMO. I think it is CMO's fault though and not tacview. For instance most scenarios from the campaign, your units will stutter around and not recieve flight data properly...

This is not a user issue lol.

Hi jb.1994, please send an email to support@tacview.net and include the following information:

- Is there any error message at all? From what you said I understand there is not.

- What happens if you launch Tacview directly from Steam? Does it appear to be working?

- Please share your Tacview log and a DxDiag. See instructions here: https://tacview.fandom.com/wiki/Help_ME_help_YOU!

- Please share a screenshot of the Game -> Game Options -> Tacview screen and of the blank 3D view

Best regards

Hello, I purchased Tacview advanced thropugh the CMO Bundle. I have opened Tacview in game and followed the executable path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Tacview\Tacview64.exe

Upon opening the 3D view my tacview window remains blank, it isn't frozen as all the tabs can open and close but I can't see any unit or terrain. . Is there a step I have missed trying to set it up for the first time?

Hi Hermann, no, when using Tacview with CMO, you can only view your mission in real-time through the 3D View.

Thanks BuzyBee ! The Reg key and Nahmic service did the trick. Could not find the DXtory program.

Hi Cliff, thanks for emailing your logs. When I replied to your email I received a notification that "the address couldn't be found, or is unable to receive mail."

To fix your Tacview issue, as a quick first test, you can delete the following registry key, then restart Tacview:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Raia Software Inc.

There are several programs which are known to inject invalid instructions during Tacview 3D rendering phase. This can cause crashes or freeze. If you uninstall/disable the following programs and services, this should fix the issue:

- Nahimic OSD service may be stuck in an infinite loop during OpenGL rendering, freezing Tacview at startup on secondary monitor in some cases.
- Dxtory program is corrupting the RSI register, crashing Tacview at startup.

Let me know how it goes,

Just Purchased the CMO + TacView Combo. Pointed to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Tacview\Tacview64.exe And it worked for one quick Battle . Has not worked since. The CommandTacviewManager window opens but is grey and TacView Advanced window opens but is not responding. Same issue when using Tacview.exe. Removed and reinstalled, same issue.
