Introduction
This guide does not contain any story spoilers, but it does reference items, people, and places that are introduced throughout the game.

This is not a walk-through but a collection of tips for players who don't want to worry about misusing their resources.
What to Save and What to Sell
Never Sell
  • wood products
  • herbs/flowers/berries/mushrooms/roots
  • potions/antidotes/poison
  • tools
  • weapons
  • stingers/sacs
  • ropes/torches
  • anything fishing (except baked fish)
  • water (only gather from a well ONCE)
  • salt (save for baked fish)
Avoid Selling
  • food - cooked or raw (except for baked fish)
If you can, save your food for quests, and, if needed, to achieve the "Wealthy" and "Strong" achievements after the end of the game.

Always Sell
  • treasures
  • trophies (except for stingers)
  • baked fish (you will have requests for it, but it's profitable to make--see the "How to Increase Your Gold" section below for how)
Sleep
Only sleep at campfires. Use whatever firewood you gather, and buy additional firewood from the master woodcutter.

Campfires are 40% cheaper than sleeping at the Inn. They're also more efficient than using food, and they won't use up frequently requested food resources.

You will have to gather firewood for some quests, but it's not worth saving up--just buy it from the woodcutter if you don't have it on hand.
Potions
As long as you have the resources always make your own healing potions, antidotes, and poisons.

There aren't enough resources in the game for you to make every single one you need, but the more you make the more gold you save. You shouldn't need their ingredients for any other purpose.
How to Increase Your Gold
If you find yourself short on gold, here's what you can do:
  • revisit any non-cave location to see if there are new resources or quests available
  • sell any items listed above on the "Always Sell" list
  • sell some "Edible Mushrooms" to the herbalist--you can buy them back at the same price
  • make 2 gold profit with the Baked Fish cycle: buy Raw Fish from Ariana at the Lake for 5 gold (if you don't have any on hand from fishing), buy Salt from the baker's daughter in the city for 3 gold, cook the fish with the fisherman's wife at the Lake for free, sell the Baked Fish to Ariana at the lake for 10 gold. Once you have enough gold, take advantage of the 5x and 10x buttons on the menus.
  • if none of that works for you, sell food that you have in plenty (start with eggs).
Achievements
Most achievements will unlock naturally as long as you ultimately gather everything.

You CAN continue to play after the game ends, and that's usually a good time to eat your excess food for the Strong achievement, and then sell your other excess inventory for the Wealthy achievement.

There is a way to lose 1 Reputation in the game. If that happens to you, know that it will not impact your achievements in any way.
Final Tips
If you have the items needed for a certain quest complete that quest before buying the components needed for a different quest. Oftentimes your reward from one quest will help you with another quest.

New opportunities will appear on previously visited locations as you play, so be sure to revisit each location (other than caves) periodically.

As stated above, you only need to use a Well one time during the game. Using it more than that is a waste of hearts.

You can amass a strength greater than 100 if you so desire. I waited until after the end to do so, but I was watching my resources carefully. If it suits your playing style, go for it!

Have fun!

Thanks for these tips! I think for Strength it's important to consider the time spent as well rather than just the cost. I started sleeping at the inn because it was so tedious to campfire 5-6 times in a row. I kinda wonder how buyable foods work out in cost / strength as that would be even faster 🤔
